Sako 85 .308 ejection issues

Has anyone had any problems with ejection issues of the empty case hitting the scope (on its way out) with the Sako 85 in .308 calibre? I have 30mm mounts fitted.

Google is your friend. Not a totally unknown 85 problem.
Thanks for your reply, I have seen plenty on the internet about Sako 85 ejection issues but it generally relates to .270, 30-06 and not much mention at all on the .308. I understand not all Sako 85 calibres have ejection issues but just wondered if anyone had experienced problems with the .308.

I've got a .308 Win Sako 85 under a 42mm objective March scope which has a 30mm tube and a relatively wide centre section (tactical turrets, 28 mil adjustment range in elevation and azimuth) mounted in extra low Optilock ring mounts (i.e.no bases) and I've not had any ejection issues whatsoever. It shouldn't happen; I'd send it back to GMK and get it sorted.

Giving it some more thought, when the cases eject they come out fairly flat. I know this because they tend to leave a witness mark on the receiver body behind the ejection port.
Does this happen with yours?

No this does not happen with mine, glad to hear your 308 works well, mine lobbed a shell out the other day and it ricocheted off the scope. Hadn't done this before, I think I may have rotated the rifle slightly as I opened the bolt and this may have caused the shell to make contact. I'll have to see what happens but generally pleased with the rifle.

I’ve got a .308 85 in synthetic and have had zero problems. I run a swaro z6i with 56mm objective lens on low profile optilocks and have had no issues whatsoever. The speed at which you pull the bolt back has an impact as to how fast/slow the casing is ejected. I don’t know if the speed also affects trajectory?

I have the exact same set up as this and have had no issues, the way the case comes out is definitely dependent on how you pull the bolt back, when unloading if you drop the mag out and pull the bolt back slowly the round that was chambered will simply drop through the mag hole into your hand, if you pull it back quickly it will eject it in the normal way and probably throw it on the floor

I have an 85 varmint laminated 204 with an s+b 6x42 on extra low optilocks and it hammers the windage cap.

jonjaco... as previously pointed out, do some googling you will see it is not that uncommon. Also check out youtube videos describing same, and their solutions. I came across this problem on a .270WSM Hunter S/S a while back, the owner was cussing as the cases whacked his scope every time. He sent the rifle for modification and last I heard it was resolved. I shall endeavour to find out what what done to fix it. FWIW this same rifle also had recoil lug problems!

Had a sako 85 ss .270, the empty cases had buckled necks couldn't understand why ..... until I noticed the mess inflicted to the underside of my nightforce.

My Sako 85 in 30.06 also fouled the scope's windage cap on ejection but it was not obvious that was happening. The experience was that the spent case was not ejected and fell on top of the next round in the magazine. [initially I thought the extractor claw was worn and replaced that. £50 wasted] Then I video'd the case ejection failure and played it back slowly. That revealed that the ejection angle was pretty steep and resulted in windage cap strike 4 ot of 5 times. The solution? I rotated the scope through 90 degrees. Windage adjustment is now elevation. All good. Cycles sweetly.

I use a sako 85 stainless laminate in .308 flavour too, its got a 56mm swaro z6i on top and I cant say ive had any ejection issues either, good luck with getting it sorted, I wonder if a call to Mike Norris would help shed any light on the problem.
