Sako 85 issue

my new sako 85 .243 has some grouping issues at 100m .the rifle also struggles to chamber a round smoothly ,when you draw the bolt back and cycle a round from the mag with the bolt it is not smooth and just before you finish loading with the bolt locked in it takes an extra force to finish the bolt in to its locked and loaded position, it also sometimes struggles to eject an empty casing, I also think the issues that come from chambering round are a resulting factor in the grouping problems. Just wondered if anybody else has experienced these issues. Rifle is still under warranty.

3-5inch groups ,90grain game head rounds

I have a sako 85 stainless synthetic that wasn’t grouping i was blaming scope mounts mod etc but after a process of elimination it was the barrel I had it re barreled and it’s spot on again. Mine was spitting bullets here there and everywhere of around the same size groups as you are getting.

That port a group needs som analysing, what scope and mounts are you using ? Have you checked the action screws ? What stick is fitted. Remove it check for oil between the action and stock and reassemble.

My 85 stainless laminate is superb, but it the only rifle I have were I have to regularly tighten the action screws.

If you can’t chamber a round properly you shouldn’t be shooting it, group size isn’t important if you can’t load it and you’re going to end up in serious **** if you can’t eject a spent round or even worse a live round. I only have Sako rifles and 2 are 85’s, I’ve never had an issue other than with PPU cases. If you’re using factory ammo I would suggest you take the rifle back to the RFD you bought it from, if you do too much messing about you’re going to void your warranty.

You say it's a new rifle and under warranty. It's factory ammo and you've checked all scope mount screws and the actual scope itself. Have you shot it both with and without the moderator.
Rule out shooter error by getting someone else to shoot the rifle and if the problem persists take it back to where you bought it.

I had PPU ammunition issues in a Tikka T3 .308 it was really tight in the chamber but shot half inch.

I would be taking the rifle back to the shop. If it’s a new rifle you have the right to expect it to feed, chamber and group.

You say game head ammunition. Have you tried different brands of ammunition? Factory isn’t a one size fits all. Sako ammunition generally does work in sako rifles. If you want to try anything more.

You could remove the firing pin which is incredibly simple in a sako 85 and check function with out tension but I think you would be at a hiding to nothing due to the accuracy issue.

Does it have a recoil lug fitted? I know of an 85 that was despatched from the factory without one.

I’d send it back. Bolt shouldn’t be tight to close. I had three sent back.

The spring loaded ejector pin/plunger has a habit of rusting and then sticking on the 85’s which causes symptoms as you describe along with poor ejection

Send it back. You have more than one issue. Even if one issue is solved you still have more problems. My 85 is flawless
