Hi there my sako has eventually came to end of its life, its currently chambered in 243.
I'm looking to get it rebarelled and looking for suggestions I'm open to changing caliber.
Is it worth getting it redone or not worth the hassle. Thanks

Yeah not worried on price etc, rifle has bit of sentimental value and I'll pass it on eventually aswell. Was a tack driver aswell and outshone more than a few well known rifles

I was given one recently, thought the action was really nicely made, they have a massive cult following in the US and Scandinavia
I'm having mine done in 6XC and found a Canadian composites company who are making an ultralight stock for it.
if you're interested in a pre-loved fluted Border Barrel in .308 I'll put you in touch with the RFD I gave it to.

I have one which is now on its 3rd barrel, one on its original and a few 'newer' rifles of other models or makes but the old forester is still usually first out of the cabinet!

What is it that you do with the rifle? That would be a good starting point for what calibre to change it into.

Or if 243Win has worked fine so far,just rebarrel it with a 1-8" twist and keep on carrying on.....

Mostly daytime vermin, im work on a moor and have plenty opportunities to stretch it, was thinking of 243 ai

If you reload then that would be good. You could also go for one of the super 6mms like the 6mm Creedmoor, 6mm XC, 6mm Dasher etc

I’ve got a L579 Forester it was originally a 308 and Trevor Proctor put a Mc Gowan barrel in 243 I’ve had it 42 years in total

Speaking to a mate of mine and he's flung a spanner in the works, would I better building something off the 85 action i have rather than the forester
