Used Sauer 202 vs Tikka T3X, both in .308.

What are your thoughts? Which would you choose and why?

I’m lefty, and have found what looks to be a nice 202, but for similar money to a new gun...

Cheers!

No contest, the 202. A tikka is a good workhorse but the 202 will do all that a tikka can with finesse and have a nicer trigger, one of the smoothest bolts around, a good quality stock, be accurate, and you can change the barrel if you want to change caliber.

The only downside to a 202 is that fitting a bipod can be a ball ache if you want one and that some don’t like the safety.

I’ve owned a few tikkas (still have one) and a few Sauer’s and I’ve never got rid of a Sauer yet.

Gixer

I have a Sauer 202 as my personal rifle and a Tikka T3 provided by work, they both do the job but the sauer is just nicer, and a hair more accurate. Think ford focus vs Mercedes saloon, both do the job one is just a bit more refined.

I use a Sauer 202 and it’s a lovely rifle all round, as said very smooth and feels quality ... I was told the same on buying mine, that should I choose to move up or down in calibres that all I need is a barrel, bolt and magazine Simple.

Apart from the fact that you can buy a very good rifle for what you would pay for a bolt, barrel and a magazine ... plus buggering about with the variations required.

Other than that ... The Sauer 202 is sweet.

Good to hear there’s some love for the 202!

I’m tempted to sell both my .243 and .308 and just get a 202 in .308, what with the move to copper blah blah, and the fact that many say meat damage on smaller species (eg muntjac) with a .308 isn’t that bad... therefore why the need for both calibres? ‘Beware the man with one gun’ as they say...!

See if you can get and try it out, it may look lovely but if it doesn’t fit you it’s wasted money if a tikka fits you.

202 will hold if not increase in value, a Tikka will not... as to shooting there is no real similarities other than they both can do the job
