Scared of thunder.

This is an odd and individual subject. My oldest not Sprigandor is at 10 still a fantastic peg dog, does t bat an eye lid at gunshot and will sit/lie on a peg without a lead until told to retrieve.
Fireworks and Thunder when in the house have him in a state as a shaking wreck HOWEVER (and this is the odd bit for me), if we are outside (walking or working and there is Thunder, he doesn’t mind at all….

🤷

As above, my older bitch has developed a real fear of thunder, one rumble and she’s in, sitting on my feet and whining. I wasn’t around yesterday and she ran, turning up at a neighbours in a right state and demanding entry.
When she was younger there was no issue but it’s definitely getting worse as she gets older, she’s 8 now.
She’s not gun shy and generally is pretty unflappable, just this one issue.
Its not the actual bangs its the pressure i think! How come she can run to the neighbours ? That could very well be linked, even a dog that is for protection should be protected itself within its pack i am sure early intervention bringing the dog in with the family in the house or other dogs in the kennel will help is its done before the symptoms occur .
Gun shy and electric storms are very different things.
I had a storm scared dog once , she never liked it from being a pup to old age but was a massive amount calmer if she was with us.

If your ok with it the dog is ok with it or should i say " a lot better when your with it and your cool about the storm "

It’s definitely the bang that triggers her, and she doesn’t run with a destination in mind, she just runs, she turned up at random neighbours but it could have been anywhere.
I have 2 other dogs that aren’t affected.
If I’m around I can console her, but if I’m not around she’s likely to run if she can.
