Scope for BSA Viscount ?

So, I have this recently purchased, sweet little lightweight BSA Viscount in .243, and was able to find a set of the Parker Hale rings needed to fit on the milled dovetail to mount a scope. I do have an older, Japan manufactured fixed 4x Bushnell which fits on the rifle, but would eventually like a bit "more" scope, such as something in the 2x to 6 or 7 "ish" by less than 40mm. Suggestions for particular scopes, or brands of scopes, which might work, or any other problem solving thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the reply caberslash ...
So I went back and did my best measuring with my rudimentary calliper and my old eyes ... many, if not all of the Leupolds seem to have an advertised ocular diameter of 1.56mm, and it looks like it just may fit. Curious if you have such a set-up yourself, or if you have seen one like it. I guess I'll have to find a friendly vendor and ask if I can set one of his Leupolds into the bottom half of the rings to see if it clears the open bolt. It does look mighty close. If the Leupold does the trick, I will probably stick with one of their 2-7x scopes. I've become a fan of the smaller glass in recent years, and usually have my scopes set from 4 to 6x other than when shooting at a range.

It was me, not caberslash.
Yes, I had a 3-9 Leupold Vari-X 2 on a BSA 7x57 with Parker-Hale ringmounts on the BSA's integral dovetails. Can't remember what model number (and therefore what height) the P-H roll-off mounts were, too long ago.

I just picked up a Leupold Vari - X 2 in 2-7 x 40mm for my 358 off of Canadian Gun Nutz from a guy in Kamloops , your neck of the woods Icedog . I like more low end on a big game scope . As 20 -250 says , a 3 - 9 Leupold would also be a good fit , as would a number of other smaller objective lens scopes . Even an older model fixed 6 from one of the better manufacturers would work . I make a point of looking for old Leupolds , they're inexpensive and Leupold has a lifetime , no questions asked policy . I've sent so many scopes to Korth , the warranty centre in Alberta , that they know me by name . I don't even bother mounting them on a rifle , I send them to Korth for a free servicing and get them back within 3 weeks . Take a look on CGN , there's lots of scopes that'll fill the bill for a good price . I picked up another Leupold M8 4X not long ago for $ 150 bones , works perfectly .

Good advice gentlemen. I'll stick the old 4x Bushnell on it for the time being, and keep watch for a suitable and reasonably priced used Leupold ... hopefully something 2-7x less than 40. I did check on a vintage 6x Lyman earlier, but it was sold before I got to it ... really had the cool factor going for it.
