Scope mounting rings Sako 85/ 30mm tube Zeiss

Evening all,

Just took delivery of my new (to me) Zeiss Duralyt 3-12x50 and need to mount it on my Sako 85M. It's a 30mm tube and the GPO scope it's replacing is 25mm tube so not a straight swap.

Been on the Sportsmatch website and the TO84 2 piece medium appear to be correct and allow the 50mm objective lens sufficient clearance but i am no expert. The dovetail is smaller to the rear of the receiver where the rear ring would mount (11mm) than it is at the front of the receiver where the forward ring would mount (15.5mm).

Can anyone offer any advice or alternative mounting options please?

Hi,
Those mounts won’t fit a Sako 85 action. The Sako 85 action has a tapered dovetail on it and those mounts are for a 15mm straight dovetail.

You’ll want some optilock bases and rings for your Sako or a picatinny rail and rings.

Thanks, where did you get yours from? Just looking at a few websites and the ring and mount options are pretty dear (no pun intended) so don’t want to get it wrong.

There’s usually a few knocking about in the classified section. I’ve recently bought a Sako 85 with a set on it that I would have given you but I’m waiting for a variation to come back. I can’t pick up the rifle until that’s done.

Hi, I have a 2008 Sako 85 short action. Originally I used Optilok low rings and bases with a 50mm objective, 30mm tube Zeiss. In 2017 I swapped out the Zeiss for a March with a 42mm objective and 30mm tube and replaced the rings and bases for one piece 30mm Optilok ring mounts. I much prefer the ring mounts.
