Shameless product placement ant the credibility of Sporting Rifle magazine

i don't recall guns review being overtly biased in its reviewing - though interestingly they did test the firearms reviewed both on the range and, in the case of sporting rifles, in the field: So a .308 might be taken out at hinds, for example.

That was a proper, all-round shooting-sports magazine with regular pieces on law, target-rifle, clays, game shooting, stalking and equipment reviews as well as bits of history and stuff on artillery, bayonets at other less main-stream fodder.

But where is it now?
gun mart ?

Excellent last line nick. None of us are "paid" to have an opinion. Therefor far more likely to hear the truth.

You can add me to the 'fed up to the back teeth of advertising' list too.
My subscription ran out last month.
I don't think I'll miss it at all.
If you want honest opinions of kit ask on here. Plus there are so many excellent write ups.

Another victim of the various UK firearms bans? Correctly or not I can't help fixing it's demise with that of the last "Pistol ----" trade fair at Bisley. Now the very second-rate Phoenix.

I like a good paper magazine. No offense to this web page and others, but I'm stuck in front of the computer all day so I can't be arsed turning it on when I'm home. Sporting Rifle is a good concept for a magazine though so it's sad to see it ruined by an incompetent editor and an ignorant publisher.

mine runs out in oct and i am not going to renew for all reasons given in the above posts, and you can see all that the mag offers on monday eve in the shooting show for nowt ! still they do make good muddy boot mats ??.

Guns Review died with the pistal ban. A great magazine that i looked forward too every month. I was out with Colin Greenwood when he was testing a .300 weatherby magnum for a review many years ago. How the years slip by:old:.

I only ever met Mr Greenwood and exchanged a few words at the pistol meetings, from that and his writings he struck me as a person of integrity. There was always a legalistic article in each edition of Guns Review that was probably written by Mr Greenwood but I can't remember the pen name used, can anyone remember it?

I must dig that one out. The only (other?) UK review I can recall on this cal was one involving Paul Roberts and it wasn't very complementary but this probably had a lot to do with the bullets being used on the Highland stags in question.

Cheers

Colin Greenwood seemed like a very nice chap. We were culling fallow in a park when he was useing the .300 weatherby. I seem to recall that Guns Review leaned more towards pistols, but had a very good content much better than a lot of the tripe in the magazines today. I Threw all my Guns Review, deer, and many other magazines away when i moved here.

I cancelled my subscription a couple of months ago.
I think your being unfair to the editor though
Ive always found Jimmy Carr quite amusing :D

I found an old Guns Review at the club last night and can answer my own question now. - CADMUS.
