Has any one converted a shipping container into a chiller and prep room at all iv been thinking about doing it for a while just wondering if any ones done it

No but it sounds a good idea and you might always ‘soften’ it by basically constructing a wooden shed around it if such things are important to the location.

One word of caution though: Check the cost of vehicular transport and lifting the container into position.

Not a shipping container, but have converted an 18ft refrigerated van body.

That looks awesome I was looking at doing 20ft container doing a 10ft chiller then the rest as a prep room I’m just about to sit down and work out the rough cost of it all what did you use to line the walls ?

So you have any sweating issues with the unit ?

There was no need to line the walls - it was formerly a refrigerated van, so already insulated to food hygiene standard.
The chiller section is just 4ft, but runs the full width of the unit (almost 8ft) so plenty of room to hang half-a-dozen fallow.
Overhead rail runs full length of the unit and into the chiller section. It also protrudes about 3ft at the back, with an electric hoist mounted above it, so I can lift a beast straight from the vehicle onto the rail.
There is a bit of an issue with humidity in the chiller during warm damp weather, but on the whole it is OK.
The whole thing is mounted on a tri-axle trailer, so can be easily relocated. Just plug an extension lead into power inlet and connect hosepipe to water inlet and I've got chiller, freezer, hot & cold running water, electric hoist, and power sockets for all the other stuff like vac packer, scales, mincer etc.

Was going to do a home build chiller 10ft by 3ft inside a stable and turn the rest of it into a prep room and put my freezer in there. Being a joiner if collected all the gear over a time. But got a Price of £1800+vat for the cooling unit. Getting a fridge body for the same price now with 240v chiller unit attached for same price. My sparky has said there's a bit of work on getting it wired.
