Shooting with glasses

Since a few years my eyes go downhill. Age !!! I now need glasses to read and for daily use. I know it's possible to adjust te scope for people who use glasses , but still have a sharper view with glasses then without. Shooting prone is a nightmare. This way you look on the edge of the glass or even above it. Dennis Taylor glasses would be convenient . LOL
Are there people on here having the same problem ? How do they get around it?

I'm in the same boat as you Hales. On the range I wear glasses but in the field I don't because they mist up or get rain on the lenses.
I had a pair of "Dennis Taylor" glasses a few years ago, I found them to be totally bloody useless and annoying.

I wear them on the range and stalking. My distance vision is not sharp enough without them and misting/ rain/ breathing on the sodding contraptions really bugs me. Especially misting when wearing a midge hood!

But its either that or only shoot blind deer.

Thought of lasers and contacts. But just not for me.

Glasses for driving contacts for shooting ,glasses steam up and just seem to get in the way whilst shooting.Would love laser vision but swmbo wants a conservatory

Zeiss shooting glasses will sort you out, plus have the added safety benefit for shotgun shooting. I even use them for mowing the lawn & skiing so they have been worth every penny. The only problem is that I'm terrified to get my eyes checked in case they have changed & I have to get new distance glasses, shooting glasses, sunglasses etc as it starts to get seriously expensive.

I use the clear ones for everything but then I live in Scotland.

Same here, have two pairs, one yellow and one reactive , really not expensive by prescription spectacle standards.
Adjustable bridge height, making sure your line of sight is well covered when your head is on the stock

I have worn spectacles for fifty years+ with gradual degrading. I now wear varifocals for convenience. This, of course, means that I can see absolutely nothing through the 'scope or bin's. So, stalk without and glasses on for the drive home. (It also gets round the problem of misting-up and rain on the lenses, etc.)

I have varifocals also. trying contact lenses at the moment but not working so well. Vision is nowhere near as good with the contacts. For me they are a pain to get out.
Still persevering but don't know whether I will be able to use them.
I have thought of Refractive Lens Exchange surgery, recommended by my optician and returns your vision close to your youth. But at £3000 per eye it did make my eyes water a little.

I made the mistake of using my reactolite coated prescription glasses at the range recently. It was a bright day. I could see b*gger-all through the scope because the lenses had turned so dark

Took them off and re-focussed ret but couldn't get it spot on for my (short sight) eyes. made a big difference to groups!

Next time it'll be the standard glasses. A tip is to have your prescription lenses with anti-reflection and anti-rain coatings (both sides) and before a cold day's outing, give them a spray with Bob Heath Visor spray which will prevent them misting up. Works a treat!

I used to use contact lenses just for shooting but now I only use them when it is raining when shooting. Rest of the time I simply lift up specs when using the scope. Bit fiddly at first but works fine for me.

I damaged my eye a year ago and lost a few points on my long range vision and found it a real problem wearing glasses for early morning stalking so went for bifocal with light reactive coatings just have to live with it now:cry:

Contact lenses are great once you get used to them. A friend had his eye sight impaired by laser surgery which has put me off having mine done.

My partner is a swimming teacher so wearing glasses is a right PITA for her job. Some years ago she elected for laser-corrective surgery. What a difference, 20x20. She was pleased as punch and thought the investment worthwhile. Within three years she noticed that her vision was again impaired so went back to have further correction.
In the end she decided that she would simply live with spectacles because she was going to have to have further treatment every few years and there is a cut-off point where they are unable to do any more only leaving the option of lens replacement.

Worn glasses all my life and usually wear them for short shooting or fishing sessions but put contacts in if its raining or if im out all day. Always carry my glasses and spare contacts when out as Ive had the odd accident and lost a contact which has ruined a good day out.

Daily disposable contacts for shooting, climbing, picking up etc. Fantastic all day, no fogging up or problems with eye relief on the scope! Take a little getting used to but once you've persevered you won't go back to glasses IMHO

My near vision is rubbish, medium vision iffy and distance reasonably ok. So to avoid having to constantly put on /take off specs I wear varifocal almost all the time. Except when shooting, when they area nightmare (rifle or shotgun). When shooting I go commando (so to speak)
