Shotgun barrel question.

Guys Ive just bought a Browning B25 as a sporting gun. It was a trap gun but at some. point its been sportized and the chokes opened up to about 3/8. 5/8. However Im assuming the barrels were chromed or coated with something that has now been reamed off because now the first couple of inches of the barrels will rust before your eyes.
Obviously I'm oiling the barrels after cleaning, but as Im only going to use the gun occasionally and it might sit in the cabinet for months at a time, i was wondering if these is anything else I should be doing. (I have a VP90 pouch in the cabinet but it doesn't seem to be doing much)

They would have been "lapped" which is a lead slug coated in lapping compound "grinding paste" for want of a better word.
The choke area will be the last couple of inches as that is where the restriction is, same in a multi choke.
Clean it and a dab of gun grease in that area BUT pull it through before you use it.

The deposits from burning smokeless powders can form acidic solutions if mixed with water.
If condensation settles there because that end doesn't get hot you might get some corrosion form.
Normal so called gun oils won't prevent acidic corrosion.

Try pouring hot boiled water down the barrels but hold them with a thick towel!
When the heat has dried them continue with your usual method and see how that works.

Could try

XCP Rust Blocker CLEAR COAT

works for me on long term storage and the BMW GS etc... dont forget to patch it out before use this stuff is thicker than you think.

I don't think B25's have chromed barrels. It's the more recent Japanese made models that are chromed, and I believe this does not extend into the choke area.....but I might be wrong.
