Just wanted to say thanks to Alan at Danum Blades for sharing information that really helped me. I started making blades a few years back during covid lock-downs. It gave my days some structure while we were the most locked down city in the world. Since then I have been trying to improve with each knife I make, though I am only improving slightly with each knife I make.
For this build, I had a few ideas, and wanted to try building a "zipper" blade as part of a set. I really had no idea how to go about making a zipper blade, but the you tube video "Grinding a Zipper" was a huge help on how to go about this task. Any flaws in the final knife are entirely mine, but the inspiration for the zipper is 100% Danum Blades.
This has been a lot of firsts, as I made a pair of knifes as a set for the first time. The steel is S35VN, with black micarta handles and red G10 liners & red G10 pins. This is the first time working with most of these materials, first time making this blade shape, and I sharpened them on the belt grinder for the first time instead of water stones or using the Worksharp. Edge is not quite as good as I can get it with the other methods, but its about 80%-90% of the way there. As usual, I learned a lot, made some new mistakes, plus I made a couple of cockups I already know about.
