Very hard to beat the Roedale or A-tec design, maybe impossible if you double the outside wall section.

Edi, I qoute;
The overbarrel Spartan Mod weighs in at 490 Grammes, the moderator comes with a delrin rear bushing which needs to be cut to size. All the Aluminium used is 7075 grade and is fully Hard anodised to 30 Microns depth

So I apologise, it is 70g difference for a similar mod. But the Spartan is a reflex, not a can and so the weight distribution is much, much better.

The steel or stainless Roedale with five baffles also weighs around 470 grams.
I mean the ultra light versions which weigh around 220grams for the Atec and 190 for the roedale.
That is less than half the weight.
Try one, makes a huge difference to the handling of a rifle.

Edi is right, I know the Third-Tactical mods and the A-tec mods very well, a friend of mine was the distributor for Craig’s mods and the UK Importer for A-tec mods before Jackson rifles took it over. Some of you no doubt met me when I was helping out on his stand at some of the game fairs. Craig’s mods are very good don’t get me wrong, but the A-Tec CCM is about half the weight. My money would go on a A-Tec or Roedale for my stalking rifle.

you should use your rifle more often, both with & without mod, & be up to speed with all available poi's.
I agree with Finnbear the difference on my scope is 12 clicks of elevation. it takes 30 seconds :idea:

I was impressed by the Spartan because it is reflex and is under two thirds of the weight of my T8, and I thought (wrongly) that the weight compared to the A-Tec/Roedales quite well

For years I said I would never have one on my stalking rifle, my first deer dog was deaf my the age of 7, when I got my next one I didn’t want her deaf so soon, to compound it I have hearing damage in my left ear, and two of my stalking friend have hearing damage from shooting rifles without hearing protection/moderator.
As has been said the latest moderators are a mile away from T8s and wildcats, they weigh as little as 200gms. As for one weighing too much to carry, most stalkers could do themselves a big favour and loose a couple of pound from there waistand adding only 200/300gms to there rifle with a moderator.
I was with a client last weekend he shot at a group of hinds and calves with a moderatored rifle, and the animals ran towards us for another 3 shots to be taken because they did not know which direction the shot came from.
Plus points:-
You get to keep your hearing,
Your dog keeps its hearing.
You don’t upset your neighbours
Better chances of follow up shots on heads of multiple game.
It tames the recoil and muzzle blast of even the most powerful cartridges.
Most rifles shoot more accurately with a moderator.
You have a greater chance of seeing the animal’s reaction to the shot with a moderatored rifle.
You can’t shoot on some land without one (FC).
Minus points:-
Rifle weighs a little more.
Rifle is a bit longer.
The pluses far far out weigh the minus IMO.

ERR no, moderator removed and invisible thread protector fitted for posing photos to be posted on web sites.
if that is your thing. Any way who is about at 4:00am to admire it when you leave to go stalking, functionality has a beauty all of its own.

Can get uglier,
Went through high grass last weekend in ****ing rain and had to carry the rifle barrel up, some sight with a latex glover over the mod to keep the water out. Without mod a finger piece off the glove is enough.

A brilliant solution, thank you 
I cut off the tips of some re inforced rubber dipped working gloves, they made excellent battery terminal post covers! (for the spare redundant in the back of the truck)
