Evening all..
Hopefully going to be heading out in the next week or so after my first ever deer. Everything has been ticked of and god to go, should be picking the new rifle up at the weekend if I can find time etc.

Was just wondering if there is anyone on here in the south yorkshire area that would be able to do a roe skull mount or can recommend anyone, incase everything goes to plan as I would like to have the first mounted..

Isn't that tempting fate?
I'd been "stalking" for a couple of years before I even saw a deer, let alone shot one!
Seriously though, good luck with your first outing - you'll remember it for life, whether successful or not.

Best of luck and if you want a full circle experience I would attempt to boil, clean and mount it myself even cutting your own shield … it’s a great satisfaction for me at least to do it this way … if interested pm me and I am happy to write down how I do them step by step. Yes definitely tempting fate but I would rather be prepared for either outcome just incase. I have been watching them over the past 6 months on my permission and have monitored a couple of routes some of the bucks are taking each day. If nothing presents then I will have had a nice walk in the fresh air..👍

That is a very nice mount Rob.. Would appreciate any advice on the subject I know there's youtube but it sometimes seems like they miss a few steps as they are busy with the camera stuff..

I wouldn't call that stalking now VSS. Sounds like you were just going for a walk in the woods

But yes, OP dont jynx it! I'll say a prayer for you!

remember, slow is smooth and smooth is quiet!

Best of luck!

You can just throw the head into a freezer if you cant get to a taxidermist in time? If you really want the full experience you could always DIY it? Skull mounts are hand enough to do yourself

  1. Skin entire head, removing as much exterior and interior flesh as possible
  2. Wrap the base of the antler in tinfoil and secure with electrical tape
  3. boil for an hour or so in water and dishsoap and/or laundy detergent (Daz)
  4. Power hose it, outside, up the nose, down the hole where the brain is. Be careful with the nose area as it can become fragile
  5. Air dry and then paint it with some 40% peroxide hair bleach.
  6. Leave over night and rub it off with damp towel
I'll post a photo of my last one I did later on.
