Ban thatched houses while we are at it .Blatant fire hazard .
Absolutely wonderful in Summer time when one lands in a field of oats.

The mind boggles, firearms licensing is a mess, BASC don't care and have failed to actually achieve anything worthwhile for shooters (ever ?).
But they do want to ban balloons and paper fire lanterns. No bloody wonder shooting is in trouble, BASC you need to look at where your money comes from
and then do something to help shooters, rather than doing something to **** everyone off.

Astonishing. The usual gum bumpers managing to turn BASC support....together with an number of other rural bodies....for a very worthwhile and much needed move by the NFU, into a vehicle for their own childish and bizarre anti BASC sentiment. Go away and grow up.

I let one go in Thailand off the top of our accommodation but it drifted down within inches of the thatch bar luckily it rose again and went out to sea harmlessly.
Probably killed a dolphin or turtle though.

I have found both the wire and the bamboo framed lanterns littered around the farm. Some of those obviously chewed at by the cattle. They are a serious hazard to livestock, wildlife and property.
As an aside. While at school I wanted to do an experiment with what was basically a Chinese lantern. I was told at the time that it was illegal to let an unaccompanied (ie not a piloted balloon) flame aloft.
I don’t know what specific law it was or if it was an excuse to prevent said experiment.
But if it was law. When was it repealed? If it wasn’t then they are already illegal.

Exactly that! The farmers unions can pour money into that instead. BASC ignoring Doctors fee, millions of pounds of fireworks Nov5th, new years weddings etc but lanterns are a bigger deal!? WTF

Ohhhhhh, is that a metal one? My brother had one and it fired the rocket as well.
