Smocks

Hi lads

I've done a fair chunk of research so know many will say ridgeline smocks get too warm etc etc but I have a different query.

Those of you that have the newer smocks, Elite 2 and Evolution can you tell me if the crisp packet rustle sound eases off after a bit of use?

So far I have 3 smocks sitting infront of me...

I like the pocket setup of the Jack Pyke but it doesn't have a side gusset, pit zips, and the softer outer material may be quieter but will soak up more water correct?

The 2 ridgelines are lighter weight and less likely to soak up water, the elite doesn't have pit zips but I like the smocks length. I'm a lefty and thought the pocket would snag on my stock but since trying it on I've found it sits low enough to not be a concern.

Any input from users of these smocks please lads?

As it stand I'm leaning toward the Jack Pyke due to the rustle sound but if that eases off then a different ball game.

Dunno about what you mention above..... but I’d buy another Rivers-west Field Pro in a heartbeat ....if that helps

I use a dpm camo smock from the good old british army, cheap and quiet, and you can wear a goretex jacket underneath for good weather resistance.. im foxing at night in mine not stalking deer...H

I have the Ridgeline elite 2 the water soaks back up the sleeves £210 for utter rubbish and the material rips very easy never again

I've got the Jack Pyke one. I managed to get it for about £100 on Amazon which was a fair bit cheaper than nearly every other smock out there. Its seeming to hold up well, had it for about 8 months now I suppose using it on my stag season in Scotland as well as farming. I haven't noticed it soaking up that much water tbh, has kept me dry in some pretty wet weather. I do agree it would be nice to have some of the extra features but for the price I got it for its been bang on, and realistically I'm not too sure how much I'd use the extra features - I haven't found myself sweating too much in it. The only negative really is that the sleeves are a bit short, which is a problem for me because I've got long arms but might be alright for most people. Hope that helps!

I got the right a%#*se with my ridgelines hot and sticky and noisy, I went back to Swandri, perfect until it pours down and the weight increases

recently got the Blaser smock ( only because it was half price from BushWear) so far it’s worked out perfectly nice and warm no sweat build up, quiet and fits nicely

i don’t know who makes them for Blaser, but I’ve found them a tidy piece of kit, price normally is a bit of a lump to swallow but I’m really pleased with mine - a decent coat at last.

Pintail explorer is good! quiet, not noisy atall.. I wear in any weather,just add layers if cold as its just a weatherproof layer .. its tough enough and I have only managed to rip the trousers on barbed wire (in pitch black) .
I wouldn't say it is 100% waterproof but it is fine for most weathers that you'd be out in!
