Snugpack Jackets

Morning All,

Looking around at synthetic insulated jackets for stalking, foxing and rabbiting during the colder months, mostly when in high seats etc.

Snugpack seem to be at the top of the list so far, as they have all the warmth I could need, and are within my price bracket.
Exclusively looking at the MTP jackets as outer material much more weather resistant and harder wearing.

Currently looking at,

MML smock
Tomahawk Jacket,
Spearhead jacket
SJ9
SJ12

Any recommendations and experience of the jackets listed above?

Should I plump for an SJ instead of the others, and is it worth the extra cost?

Are there others I should be looking at instead?

Any advice and reviews greatly appreciated.

Many thasks,

Sandy

I've always had mtp sasquatch jackets , I think the s12 is probably the equivalent now. I just got the s12 to replace a knackered sasquatch. It is heavier and seems thicker than the sasquatch, it's certainly not a coat to be doing much strenuous activity in.

£30 self heating waist coat from Amazon or eBay and a battery bank.
Insulated jackets are old technology, self heating waist coats are so much better.
If you are working leave it off and for sitting switch it on and up the settings as needed, 4 to 6 hours no problem

So does that mean that my old ‘softie’ jacket won’t work any more???

Great bits of kit, have one myself, a dude did a test where he jumped in the icy water with one of these and walked until it dried...stayed cosy all along!

Have the sj9 and think it's absolutely brilliant. Very warm. Yes don't want to catch it on barb wire or thorns but for sitting it certainly does the job

I've got a Sleeka reversible. Good bit of kit but the Pertex won't stand up to barbed wire or thorns. I ripped mine and repaired it with camo duct tape about 4 years ago. It's a jacket to wear over your stalking jacket when you are static and it's really cold. I wouldn't shoot in it. Too bulky and slippery.

I got my first when in the army, such a luxury compared to the issued fleece at the time., I think they are great as a layer under a field jacket. I have my original and also a new one that’s waterproof down the arms and across the shoulders. As already said, not very good around barbed wire or thorns.

I've got a Buffalo shirt also and they are decent, as soon as you start moving around in one you do get a little to hot. Fleece lined and really traps in the warmth.
