Jacket for walked up / pigeon shooting

Ive found plenty of threads looking for jacket recommendations - and lots of good advice for jackets which are bomb proof and monsoon proof.

I'm after a jacket for walking the farm in the spring. It's midlands so no risk of gorse 🤣

I have a ridgeline currently but it's not breathable at all - you end up sodden the minute it gets a bit warm.

Any advice on a breathable but not insulated jacket? I have my share or dpm's etc, after something that looks the part too 👍

I use a Barbour wax waist coat and layers if walking means the arms are free.
Pigeon shooting is from one end of the scale to the other as it cold be a cold East wind to a long hot day on the stubble sat in the sun so there is not one coat to cover all the pigeon shooting.
I am going in a while so will put 2 coats in the wagon as it will be a field hide with the West wind on my back for a few hrs.
Coats will be a Barbour if the wind gets in me the other will be a nice Browning Russ @FISH BOY sent up

I hadn't considered a waist coat actually Tim, that's a good suggestion. As you say, let's the arms move and you can breathe / vent lots.

I'll look out for a write up - hoping to head out for a few hours this weekend also.

If you are walking most have a game bag so when you get hot just take a layer off.

Funny you say that - for years I used a game bag. And recently I find every time I sit in the hide and don't see any pigeons, a fox or deer rumbles in front. So I often take a light rifle with me in a slip instead of a game bag 🤣

About 10 years ago got a Ridgeline Black widow jacket with zipper armpits.
Brilliant idea can vent happily on hot days or zip up in cool evenings.
But a decent Gilet with long sleeve shirt does just as well, mines a Verney Caron.

I have an original ridgeline smock
Murder to work in due to sweat but did a die job of putting up with some dreadful weather and a beating at the beating

Just replaced it today with a Stoney Creek Stillwater jacket and am super pleased with it.
If it breathes like folk say it does then it’s worth every penny £300

I have a percussion waistcoat that I use extensively in spring to autumn and even in winter when weather is fine.

It has a large game pocket at the back - enough for a couple of duck, a waterbottle and dog lead, and good pockets for cartridges. It also keeps wind out and core warm.
