sound moderator opinions please

Great lads ........... i got some thinking to do  I did have a DM80 and an A-TEC ( which i thought was very good )......please keep any more opinions coming

I would recommend the ASE UTRA S5 moderator. It is an all stainless steel, all welded unit rated for rifles up to .25 calibre (25-06 Remington) or.30 calibre (300 Win Mag). It screws onto the end of your rifle and it only weighs 600 grams & only adds 115mm length to your rifle.
For more information go to Jackson Rifles website.
I have this moderator on my .223 Sauer rifle.

It's an interesting question.

T8 and Northstar add 4" to the length of the rifle, which is about as much as I can cope with.

It might all be in my head, but I feel the reflex design upsets the balance a bit less by virtue of some of the mass of the mod being further back.

I like non-strippable, as it saves me from my habit of cleaning cleanable things after use until they're clean. That's fine for guns and rifles, which IMO benefit from it: mods in my experience do not.

Therefore my mods are two T8s and a Northstar. I'd rather have the shortness and put up with the weight. If I were buying mods now, I'd have three Northstars. Or perhaps the stainless T8-lookalike whose name escapes me but which is oddly not adverised in M14x1 - although I like the absence of a rear bush on the Northstar.

It makes no odds to the animal you shoot at , if you hit it thats good enough , if you miss the bullet still makes a crack as it whips past

I was in the Sportsman on Friday and had a look at a new Roedale, was very impressed as short, light and stripable. Am unsure about the moderating capacity but if you are looking for a light moddy then well worth a look.

I can't personally see past the wildcat p8. The T8 was good in its day but find its a tad heavy compared to the rivals. I like the fact that the P8 can be cleaned easier. Ive blown a hole through a T8 in 4 years of use. That's even looking after it drying etc as soon as I'm off the hill.

Wildcat on my 243, Atec Maxim on the 270. I'd go for the Maxim anyday and will be re-threading the 243 to fit it shortly. Noise levels are very similar and the handling is significantly nicer on the lighter Atec.

just bought a third eye for my 243, really light & compact & easy to strip suits my needs for foxin! you don't want to be tracking a fox off the shoulder with a heavy mod turning your arms to jelly!
on the other hand I've got a t12 pes on my ppc really quiet! had it for around 5 years now with no trouble! but its nearly 3x the weight or the third eye!!

Quite a complicated topic this, I read the report in the other post about mods and the t12 came tops and yet not many of you have them, the north star gets mentioned a lot on here and that came 3 rd on the list. Reading above the one most see as the best is the jet z

Has this changed or is that still current.

That's the first post done.

In my opinion nothing else comes close to the ASE jet z in terms of build quality or noise suppression. I have 2 and wouldn't use anything else. I have tried most of the others over the years. The only other choice for me would be the northstar as it reduces the overall length by 2 inches

HAve used the Ase Utra in the past, and while quiet, it was unstrippable and upset the balance a lot with quite a heavy bulk to it

I now use a Wildcat P8 and love it, as quiet, better ballanced and strippable,, oh and I bought it new on ebay for 50 quid.
You can also get different inserts that allow it to be used on a number of your rifles

Took advice from gun shop and here and went or the north star.

further to my post above, I took the gun into the shop today to have the thread cut and changed my mind over which one to have, and went for Jet Z.

Power of and to the forum
