Southbound accommodation on the M6

As above, really. I have a trip planned to Somerset in October and was originally planning to fly down. I've changed my mind now, and intend to drive from just north of Dundee instead. I'm going to split the journey over two days, and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a particular travelodge, or services to overnight at around halfway down? I'll be travelling with my rifle too, and intend taking it into the room with me, so I'd be especially grateful if anyone had direct experience of somewhere with staff who won't instantly enter panic mode at the sight of a guncase?

Thanks for any advice 👍

Off J 35 Longlands Hotel, Royal (Bolton le Sands)

Never stayed in any as they’re near to me - food good at Longlands and Royal

Still all a bit too close to home, thanks. In-laws stay in Earby, and they've offered me a bed. Far too much of a detour just for a quick overnight stay though. I'd rather drive the extra hour and get further south 👍

I did. I should've maybe said Lancaster Services instead as that's a wee bit further down. I want to get the worst of journey done on day one though, as I remember from experience just how hellish the M5 can be 😒

I had a decent stay at The Crooklands.
We used to stay at The Sizzit when we came down for Westmoreland Show. Crooklands is great, but still just too far north. I really want to get a good bit further south before stopping over. That might still be a decent choice though, cheers
