Stalking in mist!!

Good evening all.
I was out this morning, mid Cornwall.
Misty misty morning. Thermal spotter just about showing a few roe.
I stalked in to three I spotted, I snuck through a Cornish hedge hoping to catch them just behind a curve in the hedge. As I popped my head out all of 25m there the doe was....
A staring contest which I lost, she didn't spook so to say but I was definitely busted.
The three of them all went to my left, along another hedge at right angles. Mist got really thick, so I snuck after them, I was amazed how close I could get to them along the field margin, no cover so to speak other than the thick mist.
Especially as she was aware I was there. The final stalk was into the wind which must of helped.
I managed the doe and her follower.
Does anyone else find mist great cover??
Cheers zt

I took a roe and fallow doe in heavy mist patches Friday morning, definitely helps getting close but I do find it hard getting a good sight picture with the naked eye in it.

Called it a night early on Saturday night shooting as the mist in the Cotswolds was just too thick 😏

Thankfully, I had managed to roe does on the cusp of LL at a lower level.

Few years back three of us in single file were traversing a field to get into position in the mist I could make out dark shapes moving in our same direction to our left but slightly lagging, to get my observations conveyed to our leader was to say the least comical'. (They were fallow .)
One was taken by our new member when they milled about the hedge line. The mist was just starting to clear when he was ready to take the shot.

BC.

Out a few evenings ago in the mist...stalked into a young pricket...he knew I was there but couldnt work it out. Took the shot..75m...bang flop....walked out to the carcass and then the mist came down like a pea souper. No problems...short walk back to where I took the shot.........after dragging it 100m I thought..."Where's the path?" Totally lost with the mist now swirling around me. Wandered off in the direction I thought I should be going..... Loaded Google Maps and I'd missed the crossing over the ditch and ended up with a 500m drag to get back to where I started! Doh !

I think we should remember that saying its misty is much like saying its raining. If its to thick to be able to ascertain a safe backstop it will be to misty for thermal to work or to be able to see much and its time to go home. I think we all know that safety comes first 👍

Not quite so Mike, my Telos were working much better than my Draco's that night and, using rabbits as an indicator (and knowing that grounds safe arc/backstops) I could certainly have shot if I deemed it appropriate. The Hik Thunder 3 Clip-on's performance was as good as the Telos.

I have done some of my most successful and unusual stalks in storms - Storm DORIS from a few years ago sticks memorably in my mind when the main concerns was not being blown off my sticks in the lashing rain. A straight into wind shot yeilded a particularly stunning roe doe hence Doris sticking in my mind. However, I'm getting old now and do try to avoid the "wet" storms now 🤭

Fair point...maybe trying a bit too hard to make the point of safety first lol

I tried this but gave up in a stalk when I couldn’t get steady in gusting wind, on quad sticks. I find tripod even worse but that might be my lack of tripod experience. I shot my first deer off I vanguard tripod but moved onto quads soon after and never looked back. Mist has really helped foxing until I got a digital scope…
