Stalking on MOD land

This is a query relating to stalking on MOD land. Does anyone know how to access it? As a serving member of the forces I am frustrated that it is not clear or easy to access.

The link to H4H is that it really ought to be available to the serving soldiers who are spending so much of their lives in Afghanistan.

There was an article in Shooting Times a couple of years ago about a soldier who was stalking on Salisbury Plain- it talked about how the MOD grounds were reserved for serving and retired services people .Might be worth contacting the editor.Good luck.

Or try through the Services Branch of the BDS:

"Defence Deer Management (DDM).
The British Deer Society (BDS) is the national body, which promotes the correct management of deer in this country and provides advice to Government and other bodies. The Services Branch British Deer Society (SBBDS) is a special interest group within the BDS, and as DDM, is responsible to EST for the running of the MOD Deer Management
Scheme. DDM is composed of volunteer members of the three Services, MOD civilian employees and retired MOD employees."

If the two members of the BDS that caused all the stink on the Arran scheme were anything to go by I would'nt like to take that statement without salt Willie!

Just a quick line to close this one.

Have got in touch with the key person and all is progressing well. Lots of sensible advice and I am looking forward to joining up.

What happened the ones I have been unfortunate enough to meet have thought they were gods gift to stalking

Stalking on MOD land thats about as common as rocking horse s--t !!!!
Round my way anyway, unless your high up in the ranks !

Are you sure its available for retired MOD...I get the feeling its not, well unless you name is Rupert,Rodney or Tarquin and your dad drives a Farrwarwi. :D:D:D:stir::stir:

If only...I'm a Rupert and my old man drives a Kia. I don't know any Rodneys or Tarquins though, perhaps they have better luck in life's lottery.;)

In certain areas it is, that's due to location I believe. I am not a member before anyone askes.

Last time I checked retired mod had been withdrawn as eligable, only service personel and crown estate employees,

As a serving soldier, I know that you have to have a minimum of 5 years service remaining to become an eligible candidate for the DDM. I found out when last year when I tried to join (with only 2 year left!!) I really wish I'd found out about the DDM sooner as I spent nearly 5 years on and around Salisbury Plain. Ahh well.
Anyway, that's the bottom line basically.

Good luck

Paul

Hi Scooby565 ..that sucks...I am pretty sure as when I was in the forces, it doesnt matter if you have 2 years left, you can still get a holiday to a conflict area, so why the difference for stalking, the mind boggles!! Well at least you can be sure the rules would never be broken to allow a mate of a mate to get stalking on the MOD estate and the rules changed for the sake of a nudge ,wink or favour.
