Stalon moderator gunk inside

Hello all,

Question for anyone who has had experience with stalon mods, I toke it off my rifle tonight and noticed what looked like corrosion or a salt like deposit sitting within the baffles so I cleaned it out and upon further inspection there seems to be more further throughout the mod. Has anyone had experience with similar? Is there a best way to give it a deep clean? And should the face that butts up against the crown of the rifle look like a pumice stone?

Thanks, Soap

I think mine looks a bit tidier but it isn't to hand in order to check. I stick it in the dishwasher occasionally.

Might have to give it a try… assuming no washing tablet?
I stick a tablet in the dishwasher tablet holding thing rather than the moderator.

If things are really badly mucked up sticking the tablet in a bowl of hot water with them sometimes helps but I've never tried that with a moderator.

An ultrasonic cleaner will do the job if you have one at hand, with a bit of cleaning solution to remove the carbon build should get rid of most if the dirt. If not I second the pipe cleaners.

I think my mother has one, I’ll go pester her and not explain the real reason I’m needing it…

I had one and had to return it after 55 shots, started gas burning itself. Stalon offered to replace but suggested it had taken a battering and had I fallen over with it!!!!! Absolute tosh.
Luckily the nice people at Ian Hodges where I bought it let me upgrade it for a Wildcat, unfortunately as Stalons have serial numbers I am still waiting for my variation to come back. Will not buy another Stalon coz of all the hassle. Had most other makes and never any probs.

I've owned Stalon mods for several years and always stored away dry with zero issues to date. But following this with interest..
I am yet to clean mine, I have only taken advice from others who recommended it to me. I am around 200 round count in on mine with home loads and havnt noticed any thing like the pictures on it.

Just had a look at the manual, attached image, can be cleaned or not cleaned thats up to you. No cleaner needed . . . my bad 🙃 brush can be used to get rid of said ammonia crystals you were asking about. I did have a look in my mod and it does have said crystals as well maybe not quiet as many or obvious as the original image.

Had a couple of Stalon Mods and never any bother. I take it off after use, quick squirt of 'Silensave' either end and store pointing down way. Wee bit grease on barrel thread if needed.
Has worked well for me.

This is fairly normal for Stalon mods. I have asked the same questions previously.
I occasionally split mine and give it a spray of WD40 and then let it dry out. Usually when you can start to smell the ammonia crystals.
Remove from rifle after use and store muzzle down on a light cloth to absorb any moisture that soaks down.

The only problem I have had with Stalon mods is that their early models had carbon steel thread bushes which in turn left orange rust staining on the barrel threads. The bushes are now titanium I believe. I raised the issue with Stalon and they did offer to replace the bush but it wasn't worth the hassle of sending it back to them.
