Steel shot in a Winchester SXP?

I'm about to put my money down on one I've been shooting all week.
Slicked up the action and it shoots great for me.
However I was wondering why no fleur de lis proof mark?
Are these not high pressure steel rated?
Proof marks below, any one know what they mean?
Thank you.

its elsewhere , its a plastic stocked one right ? that has a light blow back to start the rearward cycle of the action? I dont think they made a none steel proof SXP ? Americans have been on steel a good while longer than us on waterfowl and a lot of their upland game. they dont use fluer symbol and a lot of our European guns made for steel did not. Get it to a good gunsmith if in doubt but just check it doesn't say it is just missing the dates when the symbol came in

The second hand value without a steel proof marking will be virtually zero, America is not a CIP member so-

Small Arms imported into this country which have not been proved in a C.I.P.(the International Proof Governing body) Proof House must be notified in writing to the British Proof Authority within 7 days of their arrival in Britain by the company or person arranging that importation or be submitted for proof within 28 days of their entry into UK. It is an offence not to do so.

It should be steel proofed, ask them to get it steel proofed as part of the sale

I think you are right. The fact it is missing does not mean it is not capable. I know Winchester say in the hand book that the SXP will handle and is safe with any cartridge up to 3". In saying that I also understand CIP high pressure is higher than saami spec.
There is certainly enough meat around the chamber!
The action is slicking up now. Another 250 cartridges should have it good.

It is not high pressure steel proofed for UK but standard steel is fine in normal proof guns provided not Damascus barrels.

The issue is not barrel but pressure back on the action so joint strength etc. I had a chat with one of the guys at Dickson’s and he told me the load went up hugely and needed design changes. No idea what that means in practice but I resolved not to use HP steel in my gun.

High mv is a diminishing return anyway drag is a function of velocity squared so the faster it comes out the faster it slows down. May not be much advantage at range. Have a look at the Hull website they show velocity at range

Yes I appreciate that.
However this action is a strong one and the same lock up as their autos and I believe they also make a 3.5" version!
I could be wrong though....

indeed but you limit yourself on shot size if you cannot use superior steel, but depending on your type of shooting that may not be an issue. However I find superior steel recoil uncomfortable and report loud but that may be just me.

Yep i have had one for the last 9-10 years Steel proof and 3.5" chamber also my late father had Bennelli 3.5" chamber pump with no Fleur de lye mark yet was 100% steel proof. Not telling you to but have a Aya no3 3" magnum and have shot hundreds upon hundreds of HP 3" steel and home loads through fingers crossed it will get a good few more through it from September 1st til February 20th.

I have an sx3 which I think is the same barrel shot loads of loads through it not had a problem. Just my experience not professional opinion.

I'd think it would be fine for steel. I have beretta from 1995 with no superior proof markings on it with 3" Chambers.

Yet its sold to the American Market and they lob all sorts of hp steel through theirs!

I've put boxes through mine for the past 10 years with no problems what so ever so I'm sure you will be fine
