Storm Eowyn

So another wee spell of bad weather is due, and the entire country goes into meltdown. Schools closed all over Angus and Dundee, red warnings issued for wind, colleges closed across Tayside and Fife, etc. No trains running, buses are all off, courts closed. It's crazy.

These were even reports of panic buying, believe it or not? :cuckoo:

Am I just trivialising the potential issues, or have we become a nation of scared wee girls unable to exercise commonsense and responsibility for our own safety?

Where's the resilience gone? Or am I missing something?

Tree down at a blind bend on a country lane whilst I was out on my run before dawn. Mud on the verge where cars had driven around it rather than pop their hazards on and deal with the issue. No common sense a leaving dangers for the next man to find. Same as last storm. Sorted it in a few minutes’ graft 💪

It’s possible that the preceding vehicles had been driven by nonagenarian spinsters just getting on with it, who could be excused for not shifting a fallen tree.

My parents don’t clear fallen trees any more. Dad won’t use a chainsaw any more - possibly because a scrotty klepto chippy nicked his small saw, but still happy using an axe for an hour or so. Apparently over the age of 75, it’s OK to delegate or let someone else deal with it later.

I don't know what like in England but here in NI currently it's brutal my property has already been damaged, I'm just waiting for one of my sheds to get ripped apart, I've never seen winds like this. It genuinely is very dangerous out there.

I believe it’s worse in the central belt and across Ireland…up here it’s just a windy day at the moment…

Barely even windy yet, although the worst of it is forecast for this evening. Couple of saws sharpened and tested at the ready.....
The reports coming from Eire aren't good, NI similar.

Resilience is HSE speak for DANGER - and we can't have anyone being exposed to any thing DANGEROUS
If they were, all the Health and safety people that now dominate most organisations (along with "Human Resources") would be out of a job :)

Cheers

Sorry to hear that, watching our garden containers and shed getting smashed to bits just now despite best efforts at securing yesterday!
