Stripping and Refinishing Grey Laminate Steyr Stock

Following on from luxury walnut question, have an inbound Steyr Pro X with a grey Laminate stock.

I believe it will some form of varnished or lacquered Finish, probably gloss.

Stupid question time. Laminate stocks are made of sheets of dyed wood which are compressed and glued together ? Therefore there is no external dyed effect which could be damaged by a thorough sanding ?

Anyone have experience of Matt or low gloss finish products for a laminate stock ?

You may find something of interest and help in the early stages of this thread (The Not So Green Project) but remember you cannot second-guess or change how the glue lines will respond to a preferred wood dye and/or finish.

That’s easy: The sprayed coloured lacquered finish as applied by Hydrographics after PRS spent many hours trying to find a water or spirit based dye that didn’t turn to a muddy green.

I just wish I could get a response from the company in question as I need my PRS re-finished due to so many dinks/scratches.
