Submersible Pump Hose Size

I bought a small 400-watt submersible pump. It came with a twin-size hosetail - 1inch and 1.5 inch.

I am assuming that to maximise water flow, I need to use the largest diameter hose - 1.5 inch?

And to avoid restriction, I should cut off the 1-inch hose tail?

Any idea what is a maxium distance I can pump on the horizontal? Qill it be capable of pumping through 50 metres of hose?

Also just bought a submersible pump for the well we have in the back garden.

When you talk of pumping horizontally, presumably that is only the hose and not the pump itself, which they recommend remain vertical (or, IIRC, within 15 degrees of vertical)?

Out of interest, are you planning on installing any check valves?

@willie_gunn No plan to install check valves, it is for emptying a large paddling pool.

@Scuffy I have always understood that small diameter hoses have very high pressure loss - surface area to volume. Perhaps over 50m, the larger hose would have higher pressure at the end?

I have found a cheap 2inch hose, what do you reckon will this shift the water over 50m?
