Some time ago I decided to augment or replace my heavy barrel .308 rifle with a lighter weight rifle chambered for the same cartridge. I sold another rifle just before the lock down but didn't have the opportunity to shop around for a new rifle until the lockdown lifted. I finally decided on what I wanted to buy and contacted a couple of local gun shops to see if they could obtain the rifle that I wanted as if possible I intended to support local shops. Unfortunately they couldn't supply the rifle I wanted so I started looking further afield and even emailed the distributor to see if they could point me in the right direction. Guess what I am still awaiting a reply from two RFDs and the importer/distributor.
On Saturday I picked up my new rifle from a shop slightly further away than I had intended. A shop that could be bothered to answer my enquiries and who also had emailed both my local police force and myself with purchase details for me to inform them too by the time that I had got back in my car following the purchase.
On reading the owners manual it indicated that I needed to register within 10 days if I wanted the manufacturers 10 year warranty, however the registration card was missing from the box. So yesterday afternoon I emailed both the U.K. distributor and the German manufacturer. I'm still awaiting a reply from the U.K. distributor who if you remember hasn't replied to my initial enquiry about buying a new rifle of two weeks ago. The German manufacturer replied at 08.00 this morning and shortly afterwards I registered my purchase online.
I emailed the purchase details through to my local constabulary on Saturday afternoon and had confirmation of receipt by 09.15 this morning. Not bad Eh!
Why is it that some RFDs can be super efficient and others can't even be bothered to respond to a potential sales enquiry. Why is it that a manufacturer in Germany can get back to you much quicker than a U.K. importer/distributor who can't even be bothered to direct you to someone who will sell you the products that they are importing?
And why is it that some police firearms departments are really on the ball and others are so hopeless?
