Most efficient 4x4 for regular long commutes and stalking in between.

Chucking in an alternative option, I’ve had a 4wd Dacia Duster for the last 12 months and it’s been great.

It’s not as rugged/robust as my old Shogun Sport was, but for commuting in then chucking dogs/deer in at weekends it’s been spot on. The 4wd system works well, and I’m averaging 48mpg with the 1.6 diesel engine.

Octavia scout wife hass one ...I love it
Superb is bigger slightly but I don't know if they did a scout or 4x4 version
I have one, a great car it is too with it's huge luggage carrying capacity
But
It's an AWD, not a 4x4 - despite how it's badged - and its limited ground clearance means it's not really suitable for anything more extreme than a reasonably well tended farm lane

AWD yes
No internal 4wd controls it's all the car.
I believe they are 1 or 1.5" higher than standard octavia I was told ?

If you have all terrains you be surprised where can go

But will.
be very comfortable and economical on OP stated main road use

Depends on what level of 4wd hes requiring or going to be doing

Great motors but wouldn't be my choice for regular effortless long distance journeys

Tiguan auto 4x4 with adaptive cruise control. Once you get on the motorway you can set the cruise and not touch it for hours, even with traffic. Takes a lot of fatigue out of long drives. I use the adaptive cruise every day even for commutes, it’s brilliant for crawling traffic etc.

Very capable off road with reasonable clearance. A decent set of tyres would make all the difference.

Got a 13 plate Audi A6 Allroad 3.0 tdi , like driving a armchair, super comfortable, adjustable suspension, average @ 48mpg on a long run, surprising economy for a big estate. Only problem i had was on the dsg gearbox , known problem with these, easily sorted and now on 140,000 miles.
My next car will be the same but a later model with the 8 speed box not the dsg.

Is the 8speed the BiTDI?

I had an Allroad, it was brilliant! Had issues with the injectors and the DPF though.
