10 X is good. It matters not a crumpet full of cold water what many say about this power and that power etc When you are sitting alongside someone with say 7x late in the day you will hear" I cant see it mate" quite a bit.
The bottom line though is that 'any' power is far better than eye power alone and definitely better than those fools that rely on a scope to do their glassing....yes those `tard fools walk among us.
