Thanks for the detailsA great little riffle. I bought one of here and it shot great for a while. I took it out of the stock and discovered the alloy action was cracked where it clamps the fluted barrel in place. It appears the previous owner had overtightened the clamp.
I gave it to James Clarke with the Cmm moderator and I think he was going to try fix it. Not sure if he ever did?
Spares can be a problem but I liked the riffle.
Like the 25-06, must say. Thanks for your timeI bought one off a SD member a few years back. 25-06 with a 30-06 barrel and wood stock. I've since replaced the stock for a factory synthetic and had new blocks made. Lucky to have a friend willing to bring me some bits from the U.S.
Lovely rifle, that's very well made. as it's multi calibre up to 9.3mm, the action is heavy duty. Contrary to earlier post, my only criticism is with the barrel coating. Totally rustproof but does scratch easily. Most noticeable where I've been taking my T8 on & off. I've worked up some impressive loads for the 25-06 and it's my most used deer rifle. 1st out of the cabinet.
Would I buy another SHR970? Bloody right I would but I'd make sure it came with as many spares as possible.

I have two SHR 970 rifles, a .308 Win and a .280 Rem, with extra barrels. And a friend, who only has one big game rifle, bought one in .30-06 after shooting mine. He shoots very little, but checks his rifle a few times a year, fires a cloverleaf with the 180-gr Winchester ammo from Walmart, and kills a deer or two.
They were made by JP Sauer for Sigarms, but when the importer to the USA began selling the 200 and 202, and the 101 was in the pipeline, they dropped the SHR 970, which was selling for $425.00 alongside the 202 at $2,500+.
I bought extra magazines, barrels, synthetic stock, and some parts for mine. With the synthetic stock and Teflon-like Iaflon coating on stainless steel and aluminum parts, it is pretty weather-resistant. It takes down for travel, which is nice, uses common bases and rings ( including Picatinny rails of 0 and 20 degrees ), has a nice trigger, and I have never seen one ( or the tactical STR ), that did not shoot way sub-MOA out of the box.
They continued to be sold in Canada for a few years, until Sigarms changed owners again, so you may find more rifles and parts out of Canada.
