Take care when buying expensive Thermal or night vision from private sellers - demand proof of original purchase as part of the package

Never mind the second hand purchase we got rinsed by TJs on this exact issue

Customer discovered this exact fault wothin 24 hours of purchase.
I replaced it the next day with a Thermion.
Unit sent back for replacement or refund.
I received back a repaired unit back in a now clearly second hand box.

Expected to sell as new (cant) or take the hit on selling as a repaired ex demo.
No credit given and was criticised by TJs for replacing under CGA which I have to do by law!

With online registration and apps requiring serial numbers it is very easy to track ownership and age
The requirement for a customer to recover an email or worse, paper receipt years after purchase is (IMO) just a tactic to get out of warranty claims.

That Talion issue is a manufacturing fault and should have incurred a mass recall and intant upgrade/repair

Glad you said it - I was worried about lighting a fire that I couldn't put out! Stuffing bits of card / tape into battery housings on £2k pieces of kit is rubbish. Luckily Simpsons have dealt with them for me. It does seem cheeky to drop a dealer in the soup like that when you have been working hard to maintain their reputation by supplying a superior unit. That isn't clever at all. You would have hoped they would have behaved respectably.

Did they pay your postage mate ?

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that the Youtube gang members are doing it for the kick backs. I was watching one of the well known ones, and he knew bugger about the product he was reviewing, then come out with the statement "it's the best thermal rifle scope on the market" when clearly he hasn't looked through them all, Unfortunately if a NV newbie is watching, they are being misinformed but because the Superstar says its the best they have seen, then they all rush out to buy it, then find it's unreliable/ disappointing. unfortunately NV/Thermal is like trying to find a decent mrs, you need to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your Princess.

I think that is why SD is such a great tool. You can speak with a variety of people all with different views and experiences and weigh them accordingly. For me, I wanted the best piece of kit avaiable not made in China. Pretty limited choices!

The repair should have been covered under the sale of goods act which dates back to the nineteenth century and requires goods to be “ fit for purpose and of merchantable quality “.
In most cases if you need is “ proof of purchase “ , a card receipt is sufficient.
I honestly don’t understand how so many retailers get away with this crap.
They get away with it because they play a game of bluff, dragging out your time and been economical with the truth. There is no money in it for them, you are just a pain in the Bxxxox to them.

Find out your rights and play the long game.

Don't know about UK but in EU .....

If you buy an item on distance (web) you have 14 days to regret and cancel the deal i.e. return the device. If you buy via a web trade then you can get 30 days of credit and all you have to do is to inform the credit firm that there will be no purchase and item returned.

BUT, when the item returns to the seller (web seller) then it must not have been opened . If seal (?) is broken i.e. plasting wraps gone then the seller have the right to charge you 10-20 % as they declassify the item from NEW to DEMO.
So before entering into a web sale better check with seller what THEIR rules are with returns. Is just not good enough to say 'tried the item in my backyard but not for me*

Suppose one can get hold of so called DEMOS which in fact never been used. Possibly one can get a good discounted price on a new device.
