The Black Bottle

My USA pal worked in a bar in Florida for a while and if a customer asked for a sherry cask whiskey he got the first as an original and from then on in the rotgut slop mixed in with some strong sherry.

Messy? I'm afraid you've lost me there.
Session = a bit of a booze up, usually accompanied by spontaneous live music. Are there other definitions?

Mostly I have found "bit of a session" is at best an understatement.

The following morning it usually looks as if Ghengis Khan's horsemen have galloped through...

I am pretty sure we used to do this as youngsters raiding our parents drinks cabinets before going to a party.

It did the job it was intended to do, but I cannot ever remember it being particularly pleasant....
The "Mixy"...guaranteed to render at least one person immobile in a puddle of their own spew.

I once attended the last ever lock in at a bar that was closing down and they were clearing down all the open bottles. They were doing a shot for 10p. Some bright spark decided to make a mix in pint glasses for about £1.50 with the wierd and wonderful leftover spirits. I don't remember much more, other than I now have a severe aversion to cointreau.

I agree, once you've bought it, it's yours to do with what you will. All the great blends were and are made by folk mixing stuff up and some blends are better than some malts. I appreciate it is all down to personal taste.

Blended Scotch Whisky is at best only 40% Whisky (at worst only 15%) the rest is a grain spirit (ie Gin without the herbs ...). best avoided IMHO.

Brilliant idea and should end up an interesting blend

Far too many delicate queens about when it comes to Whisky
I think they read on a book what the whisky rules are but forgot to read the bit about enjoying it.

…And the ones who can’t obtain decent Sherry casks use caramel ‘etc’ for their colour, and/or make a virtue of their alternative barrel type…

I’ve drank some amazing blends
And lived

Getting a wee tour of Johnny Walkers vault soon. Lots of super rare ones to figure out how to steal lol

Some need water, I put a W on the bottle if I think it helps, most get too 'bright' with water (IMO)

I know ... I couldn't believe it when he suggested it .... adding a mixer ... good lord, tis enough to make a grown man cry
:old:HOLD BLOODY ON!:old:

I never suggested it! I suggest that you go and re read the post before making heinous allegations like that!!!!

I asked if YOU added anything and if so what?
so, who exactly is the murderer? :stir:

You'll love that tour if your a fan of blended scotch ... after the caberet they have a cocktail bar where they mix their grain/blended whiskies with all sorts of non-alcoholic juices, carbonated chemical soups and fluids.

If you wear your tartan trousers and a LOUD shirt you'll fit right in.
Give a full report :)

This. And that's why I seldom buy whisky. I used to get this in France but it seems it is no longer made. Whisky the colour of straw...like what it ought to be. I don't want so much caramel in my dram that looks as if someone dropped a Curly Whirly into the bottle when it was racked in the optic..

I’ve already done that tour with my lads , it was great.

This is to the vault which isn’t open to the public
An unofficial tour if you like 😉

Sounds fun I mean all single malts are blends really right (unless single cask)

Yes I suppose you are right, although it's called a 'marriage' rather than a blend and it all comes from the same distillery made in small batches, to the same recipe, in the same copper stills.
The 'age reference' is releative to the youngest matured whisky, so an 8yr old may have 10 or 12yr old whisky in it
You can get a 'Blended Malt Whisky' that is made up of different malt whiskys from different distilleries. Cambletown Loch is a blend of Glen Scotia, Springbank and Glengyle distilleries output.
