The 'Flyer' effect from 1st bullet when zeroing



If I had a rifle performing like that I would be getting rid of it.

Both these were shot from cold barrels.

When rifles come in from an outing they are left to dry at house temperature, chamber cleaned with a .410 dry swab, pulled through with a bore snake, exterior surface wiped over with an oily rag. . . put to bed.

Full clean and de-copper twice a year. Used nearly every day (whether shot or not).



TOP TIP! Don't get cleaning paranoia, just be sensible, if it's wet make sure it's dry wipe over pull through the barrel (or whatever device you use) and REMOVE THE MODERATOR.

Hi lads is there any way to over come the 'flyer effect' from the first bullit down a cold barrel?
sometimes this could mean the first bullet hitting 2-3" at 2 o'clock off centre
while the next 2 bullets have a a half inch grouping nearer ctr!
any advice appreciated.

Does this only happen with a clean barrel or does it happen with a cold fouled barrel also ?
I had a rifle once that would always put the first shot from a cold barrel 1 inch low whether the barrel was clean or dirty.
It annoyed me so much I rebarreled it. Its perfect now.
