Hello all
The Department of Environment, Land, Water, & Planning (DELWP) is continuing a fox poisoning program in the Central Highlands in State Forest and National Park managed by DELWP and Parks Victoria.
DELWP and Parks Victoria are committed to protecting and enhancing the natural values of forests, parks, and reserves across the state. This project, known as the Central Highlands Ark (CHARK), aims to reduce the threat of introduced predators on native fauna.
As part of DELWP’S Wild Dog Program, wild dog control will also be implemented within the 3km livestock protection buffer to reduce the impact to livestock on private land.
The project commenced fox baiting in 2012, and will continue to June 2018 with baiting commencing again on the 12th February 2018. Baits will be laid at strategic locations and other known areas of fox and wild dog habitat within Yarra Ranges and Lake Eildon National Parks, Cathedral Range State Park, and Toolangi, Rubicon, Marysville, and Big River State Forests. Baits will be removed from Big River State Forest and some areas of Rubicon State Forest prior to the commencement of the Hound Hunting season. The attached map shows the area that will be baited and the area where baits will be removed prior to the Hound Hunting Season. These baits will be removed during the week commencing 19th March 2018. Baiting in these areas may recommence in October, with further notification prior to the commencement.
Baiting will consist of buried baits containing Sodium Fluoroacetate (1080) which is applied to Foxoff, DeFox, and Doggone. Baiting will occur on all accessible roads and tracks within the baited area, and will be undertaken in accordance with the Directions for Use of 1080 Pest Animal Bait Products in Victoria. All entry points into the baited area will be signed with 1080 poison signs.
If you require additional details please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thanks
