Having lived on a small island myself, and at times been the only person there, or just myself and my wife, I understand that chap 100%

I live on an island, have done all my life, it has it downsides. Quite apart from being the lowest waged area in the whole of the UK you have to pay extortionate prices to get on and off by ferry, we have damned know all Londoners retiring here and guess what, Natural England want to slaughter all of our wild deer to use the whole county as an experimental deer free zone!

Clearly the island you live on is too big and too accessible.
Mine was only 400 acres, and difficult to get to. Bliss!
