The Pom and the occy

got a link mate? Is it the guy in Cypress?
Silly Pom unknowingly had one in his hand. The blue ringed occy, as bad as any other poisonous ****.

The blue-ringed octopus, despite its small size, carries enough venom to kill 26 adult humans within minutes. Their bites are tiny and often painless, with many victims not realizing they have been envenomated until respiratory depression and paralysis begins. No blue-ringed octopus antivenom is available.

I thought this was thread about darts….twonations divided by a common language. We have an infestation of octopus down here in the UK - not venomous blue ones though. We also have a darts craze going on and £1m prize for throwing arrows…

A delicacy just about everywhere - except UK. An enterprising crew found their lobster and crab post full of octopus, so landed them instead and made £175k at auction to go to Europe. Trouble is the octopus eat everything they can get their tentacles on, so they are wiping out crab and lobster populations, in the seabed.

Unless the occies in the UK are a recent introduction (ie rabbit to Oz) whatever they are doing is simply part of the environment.
Its got me stuffed why the UK lot haven't found how good they can be.

Marinade we use, quantities are not strict.
Full head of garlic
three- four lemons squeezed (juice of)
Olive oil,no need for extra this or that, just o/oil even canola or sump oil they are still delish.
Oregano
And we throw in a good dose of crushed dried chilli flakes if you want to jazz up with spice.
We will have a couple of kg`s in a non reactive bucket/bowl in the fridge for 2-3 days turning them over a few times a day.
Burn half a barrow of proper hardwood and when the coals are blue lay Occ`s onto wire mesh grill.
If you grow oregano you can throw fresh oregano leaves onto coals for the smoke infusion.
All ya need is to add some salt to taste, six pints and a nap.

Some will simmer the occ`s for an hour pre grilling,we cant wait so we dont **** around with that.

Sounds great! We don’t usually see them in numbers - the warming seas have encouraged migration north chasing more food. Similarly, tuna have returned to British waters after being fished out before ww2. I hope we can adapt and let tuna numbers build rather than do what we usually do which is hammer them for short term gain and bemoan their absence when numbers collapse. Im very happy to eat octopus, although now the eco-mentalists are claiming octopuses are creatures of high intelligence and we should leave them alone to predict World Cup soccer scores. Good job we mostly ignore them and carry on.
