THE PRETEND KEEPER

Happy happy days pal !
No - they both flew off as i arrived again this morning and 2 magpies were skirting the woodland edge too

On a positive had a wildlife trust out to DNA water for a newt project im participating in - and as they dipped the water a newt swam off !
We had a pond tested near the guvnor house due to an extension he wanted to build. Cost £10k to find out there weren't any 🤣 I told him that for free but the local council wouldn't take my word for it.

Nice one Ben
Just a magpie in my trap - shot 2 squirrels and a rat that thought it had hit the jackpot by our shed eating spilled grain in the sun

I am really struggling with Magpies this year. I think my call bird is muted lol. Certainly active enough. Moved it tonight so hopefully start catching again.
The Squirrels seem to be never ending two more tonight in traps

Cracking Bumpy !

I have found that i may help the little birds if the boxes are a bit lower - but maybe you are targeting different species - looks a nice bit of mixed wood with good ground flora

We have repaired all our partridge pens today - i have built another pond and extended and deepened another this week - just in after having had a beer or two with some of the lads in the yard after - typical, some of the other boys are down the town later - but im behaving as going to the show early

No suggestions of teaching to egg suck, but have you tried putting trap on top of a hedge?
Every day is school day ben👍
Yes tried that but a bit limited with the foot paths

Not put anything on here for a while, so last night I went up to the shoot for a look for a late season fallow buck, anyway I didn’t see one, I did see 11 doe’s which is the usual as I don’t see them when they are in season 😂 when I got there I popped to the farm to see the old girl and she said to me that there’s a lot of rabbits over the far side so I thought I’d go and have a look, expecting to see the “ farmers millions “ as in a couple, when I got there I can honestly say I’ve never seen that many up there for over 15 years, one small grass field had about 60 in it and it was still daylight, I shot half a dozen but the .243 is not the tool for this job, the problem is where they are is on my boundary to the caravan park which I can’t go on while it’s open so I’ll just have to pick them off on the fields, anyway it will be a nice way to kill an hour or two 👍

Your right I have 😂😂

I seen two up there last week, a yearling with a few doe’s and decent one (well, decent for up there) on the back field next to the oak wood, there’s bloody loads of doe’s, the old girls daughter showed me a picture of 9 outside the window on Wednesday
