The UK Squirrel Season Is All But Upon Us

Shot these three yesterday (BSA Scorpion T-10 in .177" and sub 12 ft/lbs) one after another as they were trapped over four hours one by one in the same trap. Shoot, empty, reset x 3. And shot a fourth today in the same trap. Using "KP Unsalted Roasted" peanuts as bait. So at least I did get some shooting yesterday as my syndicate's driven day was called off as the land was flooded.

#50 at last from the garden.
Hit dead center but these Crosman pellets don't kill very well at all!
Need to find something better.

177 or 22. What is the preference? Might have to start getting into this. Been leaving them alone in the garden at home. Mother used to hate them and loved it when I turned up with the 410 for a walk around her garden and paddock.

I prefer Bisley Magnum in .177" and in .22" Bisley Long Range Gold (this for PCP sub 12ft/lbs) as the heavier the pellet the further down range it retains its "killing power" or more correctly penetration to get through to a vital spot.

I don’t think there’s enough in it to matter , I use a.177 bsa lightning ( I got it cheap ) in the back garden , ranges are up to 25 yards , generally shoot 50 ish each year there

Think I’ve posted this before but no harm done as it’s a good approach but no doubt you tackle tarts will need to invest in a pair of Alan Wood or Emberleaf scissors!

I'm going to be joining the squirrel shooting brigade this year as the farm I stalk is being paid for squirrel control. Instead of sitting up a highseat with a rifle I'm going to take a .410 or a .22LR & have some fun. Later in the spring I'm hopefully going to be able to use one or more of my rook rifles on them too as I've just put them down for vermin & AOLQ on my FAC renewal 😎

You’ll be needing one of these (FAC rated) so update your renewal ASAP and explain its with safety in mind:

The 22 Hornet works well on Squirrel and Jay so rook rifle chamberings will be just fine but for ground-based and not branch top critters.

FAC has never appealed to me tbh just more kit time have to deal with like cylinders to get topped up etc. Now the rook rifles are a different matter altogether, nice light rifles with 50 rounds that fit easily in a pocket. The .410 is a double hammer rotary underlever that was once upon a time a double rook rifle so nice & pointable 👍
