THERMAL EYE STRAIN

Hi all
I've noticed the past couple of times I've been out with the axion xm30 key that I'm getting eye strain
(pain behind the eye) its lasting a couple of days and seems to come back slightly when watching tv
any one got any tips on how to set the spotter up to reduce this?
I was last out Thursday and could still feel it behind my eyes a little Saturday while shooting

Do you use it as hoc, or do you walk a round with it glued to your face like a robot? Eye strain and headaches can easily happen if you abuse any such device

I have a friend who stalks 80% of the time with the monocular to his eye, virtually almost attached. I have suggested a skull crusher helmet and attached thermal monocular to free his hands 😂

cheers yes my mate said i do use it a lot i shoot from two high seats on my permission then walk the rest of the farm
to me foxes come into a caller quickly and need to be seen ASAP
when im walking i do stop every 20-30yds and have a scan round
im going to book a trip to spec savers and have my eyes checked

Don't wanna sound like a dick, but how bright do you have it set?

I use axion Xm30S. Exclusively on white hot as then the screen is dark & have brightness as lower as I can.

Not sure actually, I use a Hikmicro LH19 2.0, so not high spec at all. I will check the settings.

Hik set their brightness and contrast etc at full whack from the factory to give shoppers the impression they are super crisp and clear.

Reality is, most users don’t benefit from such settings in real life usage, but sex sells!

You need brightness as low as you can tolerate 3 or 4. Contrast adjusted to suit the prevailing conditions .
D

With my eyes adjusted to the dark, I run my Helion in red monochrome, at 0 brightness and 3 contrast, and with the icons at minimum... and it still feels bright! I scan frequently, but fast. If I experience eye strain, it is mostly a legacy of too much PC and phone screen-time during the day.

no you don't sound like a dick BenBhoy lol
I had brightness on 10 and contrast on 13 (very bright) I always use black heat for best picture
have now knocked it back to 3 brightness and 5 contrast and will see how it goes this week
will try white heat as well
thanks to all who replied its the input I needed
the problem is us old boys get stuck in our ways and get scared of changing anything just in case you forget how to change it back

I still worry you may have health issues with your story as given.
I am almost 69, & do not have "The green blob" in the eye after bright light exposures, more than a few minutes, I reckon you should clear this with an Optometrist before you put the blame on any equipment you are using, next day on the shoot is way too off the wall for me as to be an equipment source of your problems.

Try some thermal binos - make a real difference

Wondering, do you suffer from colour blindness at all?
Green screens and red hot, give me a migraine type headache, also clarity of the image puts additional strain on my eyes.
Suggest, utilise both eyes if possible and reduce strain.

Hi
No not colour blind GIMLET
I'm out tonight again and dimmed it right down as recommended
will see how it goes, will also try on white heat instead of the usual black heat
if that fails might try to up the settings again and go to the sepia setting
will see how it goes if not a trip to spec savers for a full eye test
last time there my distance was above average but reading glasses needed, all the pressure test and peripheral tests were fine
i feel in my heart its just the brightness in one eye that's causing it but best to get it checked out as finnbear has said
thanks for all the advise guys
will let you know how tonight goes
