Thermal scopes on deer

Have you ever tried stopping poaching.At least when poachers were using lamps you had a slight chance as obviously you could see the lamp. Now all you here is the bang and that could be a mile away.Believe me it’s a game changer for the poacher and it will only get better for them.Hard enough to catch them at it now nearly impossible when they use night vision.

Please can you tell me how you get all of your deer back to the larder? I hope it's with a drag rope or pony? Again I'm lazy there too. However I only have one back which needs to last me a lifetime and I don't know anyone who gets paid more at the dealer because they dragged them there or carried them on the back of a pony!Please Don't refer to me as Boy or my post is Stupid as that IS Abuse towards myself.

It's very simple work hard stalk hard and you will get your Targets.
I won't get into I've shot Willy waving contest BUT I'm nothing special i have a full-time job yet i managed to reach a Big Cull ( into hundreds Fallow Red-Muntjac ) number with out Thermal - night shooting etc and your comment about less stressful for the Herd how's that work !!!!! When i get into a herd of Deer Safe to shoot you saying they'd be less stressed if I was using thermal
Also i want as many Deer through the Larder as possible
As you ask I will explain why it would be less stressful to the herd. You can spot the big herds way before they see you. Likewise you can spot the small groups and singletons. That way you avoid the big herds altogether and stalk in to the small groups taking them all out in one hit. The big herds carry on feeding unstressed whilst the small groups go to the larder. I didn't realise that that was so difficult to understand.

Yes, last time it was 8 grown men in 2 separate 4x4’s. Sorted the problem myself with a padlock/chain and mobile phone. There a 3 types of poaching that go on in banus’s area. 1). Over the fence/one for the pot type poaching. This is not a massive problem. 2). Subaru forrester dog men poaching. This is a problem, and not so easily stopped, certainly not by legal means and revenge attacks on property are a worry, low hare numbers reduce this activity. 3). The organised deer poaching is pretty much always associated with incumbants, either keepers who dont have the deer permission or other associates who know the best time to be out. Tvp run rural crime ops to catch these offenders and the shooting community take part (ive listened in on the radio and recognise the voices!). Theyre not very successful as the perps are taking part and avoid those nights to be out. Poachers on quads riding around the highway with rifles simply does not happen here, poaching of that type is internal to estate boundaries. Thermal has not made this problem.

That's a typical reply from a person with no answers. Getting all emotional and stating how good they are. How predictable! Perfect soul? I don't remember stating that??? Your pony must be knackered, getting them all back to the larder before 08:00hrs? However, I was out in the Cambridgeshire last week. Shot 15 between us! The fallow are out of control. You clearly need to get out more often and improve your methods because you're obviously not shooting enough deer.You think you know it all and are so good .

I notice that plenty on here agree with me and I have had a couple of PM's from people on here who have moved over to thermal spotters and will not be sending them back for all the reasons I have given. You carry on working hard. Good luck

You want to read posts properly.
Where did i post/say i stalked Deer for sport . What part of when i got chance i wack as many as i can is 32 Wild Fallow shot by myself Saturday and Sunday sport Stalking.
My Cull each year was in the Hundreds mainly Fallow oh and when the Doe season ended last day of February.
It was merely my opinion with my experience Thermal would not have helped me what so ever and the Statement " less stressful to the Herd " is utter Rubbish.
If you and people want to use it so what. I still use a Lamp and Rifle for Fox Rabbit control Guess what I'm surrounded by NV/Thermal users who shoot no more than me am i a Hero ?????? Certainly not just the same as there are many who shoot/shot far more Deer than me.
I'll end now on You seem to think I'm a Sport Deer Stalker
If you believe thermal would not have offered you any advantages whilst shooting hundreds of fallow. What’s the issue with other people using it then as in your opinion surely they will not “helped” by it either?

If the numbers are huge and require heavy culling surely a thermal imager is not required as a morning stalk should be successful.
A thermal imager is a tool needed to meet demand. Demand does not care about the ethics and respect required from a hunter for what he/she hunts.
So who is demanding success? A boss, client or the Hunter. If the Hunter needs it for his own inabilities to stalk and make an effective kill a thermal imager is only a stop gap. His/her hunting skills will not improve if looking through a toilet roll tube when they should be noticing the signs around them.
I could go into this further as a Hunter should always be able train a deer dog for detection/follow up, which has a far better system of sensory detection than any device.
If a shot was taken and a deer ran on unable to be detected in cover, then I might be able to condone the use of a thermal imager, especially at dusk, but a hunter should have a good tracking dog at his side to follow up. It's only ethical.

My deer control rifle, scope (how unsporting not using open sights) and moderator set up cost in the region of £4.3K, I use it to its capability, I don’t stalk to within 100m, I dial in, how unsporting!
Each to to their own, if you don’t want to do it, don’t!
