Tikka actions and stocks.

Hi all, can a tikka ctr be fitted in a standard tikka t3 stock and run with a standard bottom metal and mags? I’m not on about the barrel channel just the action/mags. I have googled this and found conflicting advice. Cheers

It's just a T3X/T3 action and the only difference is the barrel diameter and the mag system in the stock that the action is sat in when marketed new. The action will sit in anything T3/T3X and calibre/cartridge doesn't matter, it's one size unless you go for chassis's, which generally go short or long in description and this is only due to the magazine system.. to take general AICS type mags that come in specific sizes etc. However with regular stocks and bottom metal, that's not an issue anyway.

Cheers, I guessed that the action would fit the standard stock, the bit I was unsure of was wether the standard mag would work with the ctr action, or wether they had to modify the bottom of the ctr action to fit the ctr mags

What is it that you have? In terms of rifle cal etc?

Yeah normal mags won't fit CTR stocks incorperating that magazine-well. They take CTR/TAC Tikka T3 magazines.

But the action on the rifle that sits in that stock design, can easily be transferred to a regular stock with regular Tikka T3 bottom metal and magazine design.

CTR action is modified with small cut on the bottom, to allow CTR mag to rise a bit up. This cut might have been incorporated in all T3x actions, cannot remember. It hinders in no way using regular mag.

You need to check your bolt stop when changing. Early CTRs came with 30-06 length bolt stop, I think. But at some point they might have changed to bolt stop that is between 308 and 30-06 lengths. CTR bolt stop would always work with 308 length standard mags, but the bolt throw is excessive. If you want to use 30-06 length standard mags (to gain >71mm COAL) you might need to change to 30-06 bolt stop.

Finally you need the metal clip that provides tension to keep the standard mag in place.
