Tikka M590 stock

I’m looking at changing the stock on my Tikka M590 but I’m struggling to find any, it seems that the only place I can get what I’m looking for (something adjustable, light and either synthetic or laminate) at a decent price is by ordering it from America. I’ve heard that the M595 has the same stick so I’ve looked at those as well, but also heard that the T3 has a very similar one? Has anyone any experience with this and having them fit like for like or very small modifications only? (I’m no gunsmith)

The M590 & M595 actions & stocks are compatible with each other. The T3 action is, essentially, round based rather than flat based like the M590 & M595 so it’s not a simple case of dropping the latter into the former. However, if you have some basic DIY skills you can modify the T3 stock to accept your M590 - the action screws are the same spacing & the slot for the bolt handle is in the same place. You will, ideally, need to use pillars to ensure you have the correct offset between action & bottom metal to allow rounds to feed properly. You’ll also need them to replace the recoil lug as the T3 & M590/595 systems are different. Lastly, the cut out on the bottom metal is different on the T3 compared to the M590/595 - you will need to do a bit of cutting to make room for the mag release & may also want to fill in the gap between the M590/595 bottom metal & stock as they’re different. To be honest, I’d say you’re better off finding someone who can modify your existing stock to make it adjustable.

Thank you. I think that the modifications sound like they are beyond on my capabilities / willingness to try and mess it up. I’m also trying to make the whole thing lighter as it’s far heavier than my .308 at the moment but a more compact gun so I want this to be my gun I “stalk” with and my .308 to be the gun for longer range and more “sitting” with if you get me.

IIRC Joe West Rifle Stocks had M590 inlet available. Their website is not registered anymore, they seem to have been active in Facebook in near past (I don't use FB, cannot help more than that).

Brownells, Livens and SGC seem to sell Boyd's stocks in UK. Maybe ask them if something can be imported? Or put an Wanted add for OEM plastic stock and add Kalix cheekrest. That is, if you don't want to get the existing stock modified. Length of pull and to some extent buttplate location can be tackled with simple spacers (don't know what you include in term "adjustable").

I had an adjustable stock made for my 595 by Staffordshire Synthetic Stocks. Mine is more of a tactical style, but they also do sporter formats, and they were able to offer me a variety of composite weights. It was a few weeks from order to delivery, but worth the wait, and a fair price, IMO. This was some years ago, so I'll leave quoting prices up to SSS.
Thank you I’ve given him a call and had a quote
