Can anyone recommend a gunsmith in the Cambridgeshire area that can supply and fit a Proof carbon barrel to a T3x?

Perhaps contact JR Firearms? Not in Cambridgeshire but not a million miles away either.

He’s done 2 rifles for me (conventional steel barrels) and does a good job, he’s also got lots of CNC and other machines to do some tasks other smiths can’t.

the digging around is what prompted this thread as I was originally looking at a Proof being done by someone in Norfolk until I saw a few posts including on here that made me think twice

Had a good chat with Jack, very knowledgable guy. Going to see how many guided days I do over the winter and decided on the new year if I want to re barrel for a more range friendly contoured barrel that’ll still do odd stalking days or if I stick with the lighter 19mm factory barrel and just get it shortened to 22” to make it balance a bit better.

Not all gunsmiths will touch a carbon barrel and I’d be wary of those without any experience in doing them (unless they are supplying the barrel and fitting at their risk!).

JR Firearms definitely recommended - he’s doing a carbon barrel for me at the moment

Jack does do quite a bit of outsource work for the trade as he has some specialist equipment that most of us haven’t the space for

The work he has done for me has been excellent

CF barrels require care to do right and by that I mean collars to protect the CF when clamping a barrel in the chuck and spider

Not rocket science, just takes a little extra time and patience

Highly recommend James at Jäger, currently has both my rifles in, excellent work for a very good price and very knowledgeable.
