Tikka T3X ACIS Magazine Conversation

Can someone who has done this conversion on a standard Tikka or GRS stock give me a run down on how much fettling is needed? I can find videos online for the long action ACIS but nothing really for how much is needed for a short action like .308 or 6.5CM etc.

I am looking at the Atlas Works bottom metal, but if there is a better option then open to suggestions.

Looking at the Mountain Tactical video on YouTube it appears that the Atlasworx bottom metal drops right in as a direct replacement the factory one. If that's the case then you should just be able to swap them over, fit the AICS mag & crack on.

The Atlasworx website says it needs “gun smithing” but it’s hard to tell these days if that’s because it needs the action screws taking out and putting back or if it actually needs some tool based love.

There was mention of the mag release being shortened on the mountain tactical video but am sure it said the bottom metal went in with no modification.

There are two versions of the AICS mag System for the T3. Initially they made what seems like a copy of the US CDI floorplate which came out before the CTR was invented. We helped Atlasworx come up with a version that has the same footprint as the original alu CTR floorplate but using aics mags. This is the one to go for as the pillar height is the same as the original Lite plastic floorplate making fitting a little easier if converting from Lite to CTR/AICS. On the Website choose the version with CTR in the name. MMbeatle can help.

Rifle stocks and the pillar height vary, especially if epoxy bedded. We asked Atlasworx to make these floorplates with a slightly too long mag release lever. This has the advantage that the magazine fit can be adjusted ... perfect. Not too loose, not to tight and help with reliable feed.
When fitting these mag systems, we prefer to have the action side epoxy bedded before starting to fit mag system. Then have the pillar height in such a way that the original action screws are say 0.5-1mm shy of going through the thread. Just to be sure the screw doesn't strip.
Mag release lever will need to be shortened by about 1mm however they all need to be hand fitted to be perfect. The angle of the lever engaging against the magazine should be in such a way that it doesn't ramp away when the magazine is pulled or under recoil, rather have it pull the lever in tighter when under pressure.

So as an update I purchased an Atlaswox ACIS bottom metal on Tuesday. I fitted it in about an hour yesterday morning. It certainly isn’t a direct swap drop in, not that I was expecting it to be mind. You need to remove 2mm from the mag well on each side and also increase the width of the metal profile by the rear action screw. Finally you need to remove approximately 3mmm of material around the two action screws as the Atlas product is thicker than the standard Tikka item. This last bit was the biggest pain in the a*** and in my view fairly pointless for the retrofit market. This is also the bit you need to be careful with as Tikka rifles have a 3 degs feed angle that needs to be maintained.

All in all I am fairly happy with the end result and although I did get a bit carried away on one bit it’s barely noticeable. The MDT mags that I have free ok and having filled the emptied them both a few times yesterday they seem to feed.

Reading this again now I think I made more work for myself by not buying the CTR version?

This is a touch late.... but Jack Rowlings (JR Firearms) has the pattern for this set on his lathe and can mill the required changes - mine all done via post in a few days.

Yes, pity... you grabbed the wrong (or more work) one of the two AICS options.

I believe so yes. I didn’t a made more work for myself as a result. @mmbeatle is a good stockest in the UK so maybe double check when you order.

would = should. It may still need minor fettling due to machining tolerances etc.
