Whole thing is a total mess. What really upsets me is the arrogance of our politicians who have taken no time at all to approach the matter with an open mind or to try to actually learn the facts, which are freely available and to prefer popular opinions to the opinions of people who actually have experience. If they are willing to do this on a matter that has little relevance to most of their constituents, then why trust them to do the right thing on anything?
As for the actual ban, it would make little difference to me. The experience of hunting in Africa is truly life changing and is something I would love to do again. I haven’t gone more than a few hours without thinking about my first trip to Mozambique a couple of years ago, particularly to see the conservation benefits of managed hunting versus the poached out wilderness with no employment that out politicians seem to think is an acceptable price to pay in order to prevent somone from their country doing something they don’t like and don’t want to make any effort to understand.
The only real change would be that I would dearly like to hunt an eland on foot, by tracking it. This is only available as a trophy (a better term is needed) hunt and it would take the shine off it a bit if I couldn’t bring it back.
