Two beautiful knives...

A conversation after muntjac stalking at Wayne Davies' ezzy6.5 (Stu) said he was making knives again.
So we got talking about different things and a plan was hatched.
I gave him the type of profile I liked using. Well, sort of, I use a puukku type knife with a short blade and longer handle. Also an Opinel fillet type knife for the delicate areas.
With this in mind a pattern was drawn up and it fitted the bill. By the way I can't use my trigger finger due to tendon damage and this affects the way a knife is held.
I'll see what I can do leave it with me...
In the mean time my oldest lad shot his first fox while stalking and 2wks later a lovely 6 point roe buck. Some might say he was spoilt by taking a 6 point buck for his first deer but bearing in mind he's been beating since he was 3, filling feeders and helping out. Also he's always one step behind when stalking, spots deer and helps with the dragging. He apprieciates being outdoors and what's involved.
After sharing photos on a WhatsApp group we are both in which spans Europe, similar interests and swap hunts. Stu messaged me saying, 'I've got an idea for a knife for your lad but I need two empty cases' Luckily I had the two he shot the fox and buck with...

So last Sunday I made the hour trip to his place, with my oldest, to pick up the two knives...
Wow is an understatement, I didn't tell my lad what had been made but only that Stu had made him a knife.
So here are the results.
A 30-06 case on each side. The brass spacer is a flattened out 30-06 case. My lad was over the moon. Something to treasure and pass on one day.

Stu. Thank you very much for these. Looking forward to using them now.
Cheers mate.
Jon

Lovely stuff I like the 30 06 case, nice touch

And in my opion , tell your lad lad he is shooting the finest calibre available

Kjf

Could have left the primer unfired, its got a dent in it ha ha..actually deactivating it would be possible.
I love the handle material

Very nice, and congratulations to your son , nice to have him helping and stalking together !

Looks you wil have a lot of quality time together ahead , enjoy it !

They look fantastic mate!

....and knowing 243varmint's son, he will appreciate the knife - and if ever a lad was deserving of such an item, it is him. He has put in the miles for many years, is good company, and is a credit to the sport.

Well done Stu, true craftsmanship.

Ha ha.
Those empty cases are the two cases he shot his first fox and roe buck so not just any two cases.
;)

I have to say mate, it was my pleasure making them. I think your knife turned out really well and I’m going to make some more with the extra long handle as it actually feels spot on in the hand.
Let me know how you rate it once you’ve done a few dozen deer with it, I’m getting very goo feedback on the edge retention from the Elmax steel.
Hopefully they will both get years of use

Cheers mate.
Hopefully can field test it soon enough.
Definitely two keepers. Jack will have years of use out of his and hopefully can hand it down.
Next job is to teach him how to gralloch a beast.

......can you teach him to drag as well? Ideally before the next time I'm down??
