U.S primer and ammo shortages and the UK- Any ears on the grapevine?

Hi all,

Anyone heard anything regarding primer,powder,component and 22LR supply/availability being affected in the UK?

From what I have gathered, UK wholesalers/importers had decent stock before CV19 first hit, so supply to dealers was not an issue.

However, with the Brexit logjam still ongoing and US manufacturers selling out of ammo before they can make it, I wonder if we are just lucky at the moment to be experiencing a delayed effect of these shortages?

I bring this up as my local RFD has recently stocked up, big style.

His comment was 'better to have too much right now and not enough later!' .

There have been a few recent events in the US, where people start stockpiling ammo.
I wonder if there comes a point where individuals will have so much in stock, that they are just maxed out. So next panic they will just say, nah, I'm good.
As I think there must be some people in the UK who won't be buying any loo roll, for a few years.

I brought another couple of thousand 22lr just before the lockdown. No mention of there being any shortages at that point.

You’d like to hope we won’t be too badly affected by it given that Eley are UK based! And I guess it’s still probably easier for SK, RWS & Lapua (and others, I’m sure) to export ammo to the UK than it is to export it to the US. Fingers crossed, anyway...

Very true! Wonder how much raw material Eley has stocked up and if their sources are UK based.

We have shotshell makers too (but I suspect they rely on imported components, either entirely or to some extent).

And we still have Radway Green (not sure if they make commercial ammo, never seen any), wonder if they make their own primers?

Primer manufacturing is supposedly causing a bottleneck in US ammo manufacture as there are only a few manufacturers who produce them (Federal, Wichester, Remington???)
