Unusual disappointment relating to Swarovski product.

Let me start by saying - I feel Swarovski is likely the best customer service I’ve observed. Their products are normally top tier, they support their products in an amazing way and sometimes to the point where I feel embarrassed that they have provided replacement components for things that have been lost or broken due to my baffoonery!

However, I am currently trying to get my spotting setup sorted out and duly purchased a nice Vortex Spotting scope, a good quality tripod and after seeing other such setup I purchased the mount that allows you to have two items on a single tripod. So, logically I thought it would be great to have the spotting scope on one side for fine detail and my range finding binos on the other for…well, ranging!

So I ordered the Arca mount for the spotting scope and bino mount which comes with the common 1/4-20 UNC thread.

I then set up the tripod and mount and think - right. I’ll hook up the binos - so I go to my 10x42 EL’s and see there are cover caps on the inside of the bridge hinges - so I prize the front inside one off with a finger nail - and it reveals a small circle with three small holes in it - and the cover cap was glued on….bugga, must’ve removed the wrong one - I’ll remove the inner rear one….do the same, same thing….🙄

I think think, well I probably want to Google this before ripping off the cap on the front with the emblazoned swaro eagle emblem….

And find out swaro EL’s don’t have a tripod mount thread on them, and that there is an available mount to the tune of £124 or £157…

I see this as a bit silly of the Austrian manufacturer - and almost forcing owners to buy a different product…

I then check my old spare Steiner Skyhawks and sure enough they have the 1/2-20 thread in the bridge…

A bit disappointing that I have now unglued the caps and have no real way to mount the binos I want on my tripod….😒

Regards,

Deathlon do a bino holder for 19 quid.

Had mine blow over on a windy day attached to a tripod mount thing recently and trashed my 8x56 slc's, sheard off smashed etc 😬

I have to say i much prefer a bag on top of a tac table to put my binos on instead of hard mounting them. The spotting scope would be ok being vortex but should the lot fall over its going to get slammed into the ground. On a bag they'll likely survive

The good thing with having both is you can align them to the same point and then swivel the whole setup on the ball mount - and there is a nice tether on my tripod to fox it to the ground and I made ground spikes for it. 👍🏻
