Some (many!) years ago, I bought a "Hubertus" leather sling from Askari that attaches in an unusual way.
It is designed to work with traditional European fixed loops rather than the US fixed-stud-and-QD-swivel arrangement current today.
At each end, the sling broadens slightly into an oval that accommodates a fore-and-aft slot sized to be just long enough to take the sling loop. To attach the sling, you align the slot with the loop, push the loop through the slot and then realign the sling with the rifle.
The ends of the sling also feature a tab that's as wide as the sling loop. Passing the tab through the loop prevents the slot in the oval pulling up over the shoulders of the loops and coming free.
Attaching and removing the sling is therefore both speedy and silent, and there's no swivel-squeak to give the game away.
And... as I discovered the other day, the slot-and-tab design also enables it to double as a muntjac drag: hock the deer, pop the tab through the resulting slit, and then through the slot in the sling, and pull. I didn't expect it to work, but 400m later I was back at the track with no problems at all.
In fact, my only problem is where to get another one when this one reaches the end of its days... Askari/Hubertus no longer appear to sell/make them, and I've been unable to find anything similar elsewhere.
If there aren't any off-the-peg solutions, can you recommend someone who might make a bespoke version?
